Insulation has began today. Very impressed with the polystyrene board, recommend to any one for boarding garage out.

Yeah you can bash your head off it when something goes wrong on the build and it doesnt hurt!!

Are you putting plywood or plasterboard over the top of the polystyrene?

It's very easy to set fire too and gives off very toxic gases when it's burning. Best to cover it up (IMHO).

would still need covering, you'd ruin it in no time if exposed!

Foil skin sheeting, vapour barrier to stop moisture and the 9mm plasterboard.

Should be sweet.

And yes, it is fire retardant, that's what the grey dots are on the insulation, only class F to IAB, which is not great, but better than old materials.

just get foil back plasterboard make your life a bit easyier or i would use 1/2 inch ply at 12 quid a sheet its alot harder you can screw anywhere on it and if your worried about water ect give it a coat of gloss which will also brighten the place up

Cost is the main thing at the moment, spent nearly £500 on my new garage doors, and all the other bits and pieces, going to have to just make do with plasterboard.....

By the time you have insulated, plasterboarded etc the garage is going to be an inch cube inside :p

Looking at your photo's you need to worry about the gaps in the roof.
is it for the cold weather or for sound proofing.

I did mine with rockwool type insulation, then lined most of it with chipboard & sterlingboard (whatever I could get!) but I did the lower part of the walls with "second" galv tin sheets, not easily damaged or easy to set fire to where it needs it most.
It's a steel frame clad with box-profile tin sheets so needed it, far too cold & too big to heat beforehand!

It's for thermal insulation, in the winter it is freezing!

I have the roof planned, it's all being boarded out. Rockwool in the gap.

I have lost 70mm of space over 2700mm. For the warmth values I think that's worth while.
