Rolling Road Result
Ben Smith - 5/4/05 at 08:44 PM

After a long day at Mech Repairs in Cheltenham the result are in.

Tech Spec.
1600 4AGE
Trac pac 1 cams
Steel head gasket
GSXR 600 T/B's

Max Power

161BHP

Max Torque.

127ftlbs Not much I know, but doesn't seem to matter when you drive it.

Seems to rev so much easier now.

Very pleased with results. We played around with inlet trumpet lengths and have ended up adding about 1 1/2 inch's to the standard 60mm gsxr trumpets. The result is you loose a couple of brake and the top but gain torque lower down the rev range.

Would just like to say thanks to Dave and the team at Mech Repairs and also all of you guys. With out your help and advice the project would never have got off the ground.

Ben.

at the wheels ?

very much interested in your set up

but:

did you use the gsxr injectors or the toy injectors?

do you have a web site for the cams?

large/small port engine?

what engine management system?

I am sure I will have more questions, but for now, well done!

That's not bad torque at all, especially in a light car.

The Mk1/2 Golf GTi had 178Nm from the factory with a 1.8l 8V unit built for torque and you have about 188Nm from a 1.6 16V .... and a car that weighs about half.

That has to be fun, can't wait to drive my 4age .....

At Flywheel. We repeated power runs several times and would consitantly get this figure. We were getting quite big losses between fly wheel and wheels figure and couldn't see why. We eventually found one of the rear breaks were binding but didn't have time to fix! We spent 6 hours there in the end!!

Toyota 4agze injectors and fuel rail.

Phase 3 small port engine.

Omex 500 ECU.

Cams are from Raw. Not sure if they are Kent or Piper.

Thanks

Ben.

...and how much per hour did Mech Repairs charge you?

A few years ago I had my F27 run there, and they managed to stitch me up for new plugs and leads, as well as denting/holing my silencer trying to knock it off with a lump hammer because the 'technician' hadn't noticed the dab of weld on the underside that secured it. I'm still owed a free hour there, but cannot say I'm inclined to take it.

pity you don't have a baseline with the standard injection fitted and run on the same rollers. (ideally on the same day but thats a bit much)

what did these engines allegedly produce in standard form

flak monkey - 6/4/05 at 04:29 PM

In standard tune they range between 118 and 165 BHP depending on which model you have...See here:

Toward the bottom of the page.

Lots of other useful info for the 4AGE builders too...
