First, there was the Rumble in the Jungle**
Then, the Thriller in Manilla
Now, the next greatest battle of our time... Mano a Mano, a fight to the death, no guts no glory.
What am I on about????
Well...
... after a couple of years of threats, espionage, greasy breakfasts and wild innuendo... Ned 'Neddy-Boy' Nedster has bet me that his car
will be finished (SVA'd) before mine!!!!
Our cars are at slightly different stages I've done some more but he's willing to buy bits that I'd rather make.
So.... let the race begin. Let the best (or rather, least busy!) man win!
Cheers,
James
P.S. For those wanting to make bets, Dazza will be running a book!

Will any of us live long enough?
my money is on trueblue finishing his fissy powered contraption
Flanders will be under the kosh at home and then track days in the little pug to stop him building.
James will be training for another kickboxing event and looking for somewhere to live.
In fact i think deckman has a cchance of beating you both as well.
I'm still on to build and SVA 2 cars before either of them SVA theirs!!

So after a weekend of crashing and bashing in the garage where are james and ned at now,so far we have seen pics of neds engine parts.
I think we should have a weekly progress report and since both ned and james are day workers i would think most of there work wouild be completed over
the weekend,so really there is no better day to report in than a monday
Too much beer me thinks ......
nah, james had his vodka spiked again allegedly
my engine build progressed well, i rebuilt my rear hubs with new bearings, fitted one side and fitted a wheel to find i need longer studs on the rear
which were rdered today along with some samco hose for the plumbing. roll on delivery
that enough for ya bob?
Ned.
ps been in the garage, hubs all disassembled, studs are all out and I'm looking at the column downlink extension..

A quick thankyou to Ned who gave me 3 hours of his time this evening helping me get one of the side panels on!
It was very kind of him to turn up- I'm sure it was nothing to do with him being locked out of his house!!!
Cheers mate,
James
He probably wanted to see how far you've got on the build !!
Jason

you're welcome james! all i ask in return is that at some point i can have my cleco's back as they will be useful for the rear panel, and
also if i can borrow a socket for the sierra rear hub nuts
Ned.
James
are you sure he was not taking pictures of your house? (see other thread)
feeling optimistic - I downloaded the sva application form today (thanks rich) and have it in front of me on my desk
Got that F1 engine of yours running yet Ned?
Cheers,
James

Well, cancelled my Savate training last night and made myself a lovely flange instead!
Cost me some ali grindings in the eye but was worth it!
Might even grace you with some pics soon... just to prove it really exists!
Come on Nedster, 'fess up! How's your going?
Cheers,
Jim
[Edited on 21/2/06 by James]
Less of that now, get some work done . I remember when flange was voted word of the day
front wishbones have arrived, rear suspension is all bolted up. exhaust fabrication is booked for 11th march. scuttle and dash is on, column downlink
is made. dummy engine is about to come out and as soon as i get the rosejoints for the front wishbones it will be rolling onto a trailer and straight
down to my engine building friends house where I built my engine to drop that in.
Trying to order some gauges and mirrors, but can't get hold of tadltd at the moment.
Ned.
ps James, have you seen Donut's new signature? lol

trial fitting of new wishbones....
Rescued attachment IMG_1829b.jpg
crappy pic, but it is now on all 4 wheels
Rescued attachment IMG_1836b.jpg
Ned - Are those the front wheels you are going to run on? I ask as the offset seems to be such that you have a large scrub radius. Do people get away
with that much?
Cheers
Fred WB
[Edited on 24/2/06 by Fred W B]
Fred,
To be honest I'd have to read the staniforth book (again!) to remember what scrub radius is, the wheels are from a caterham and are different
offset front and rear (et18 and 23 rings a bell) they are from a dedion caterham and my car is dedion aswell. The front end is cortina based, but
sierra track width and the rear is standard sierra stuff so this may affect things somewhat.
cheers,
Ned.

Hey Mate,
Thinking of our conversation last night, is that picture after you wound your shocks up?
Cheers,
James
James,
In that pic the front of the chassis is supported on blocks of wood. The springs are wound up by hand, basically to their static length, I need to
wind them up, effectively putting on preload to increase the ride height hence asking if you had a c-spanner for the platforms
Ned.
Had the day off today, working on the car of course. progress was a bit slow..
Rescued attachment IMG_1837b.jpg
but satisfying none the less...
Rescued attachment IMG_1840b.jpg
also had a delivery
Rescued attachment IMG_1842b.jpg
Ned Do you want to preorder your windscreen to get the jump on James
I better stop posting and get my RS out to the garage to do some work on my hill trolley
IF i opt for a screen it'll def be after sva mangoman
right, major deadline now - just booked my rolling road session to map the ecu
1 month to the day
Hmmm, this is gonna come down to the wire!
Cheers,
James
after a late start,i have my engine in,i may beat you both yet
Got any pics John , i'm impressed you can be bothered to start again from scratch!
ill mail the pics to you dave, cant seem to post them in my archive
James - i hope you dont sabbotage the rolling road session booking!!!
Explosive charges already placed!
Nothing too large of course, I'm wouldn't want people to think I was irresponsible!!!
Just enough to 'pop' the car off the rollers in 4th gear at 5000RPM!
Cheers,
James

Just thought I'd bring this one back up to congratulate the better man who won and to wrap up the thread.
My build is/has been on hold as I'm seperating from my partner and buying her out of the house so need to wait for the finances to settle before
I finish the car off.
Apart from the seats that are currently in James car (and a few tools he borrowed!) there is very little to be done and sva could probably be booked
but I can't risk spending the money at the moment as I might need it for other priorities.
Maybe on the road for next spring
Ned
[Edited on 1/8/06 by ned]
Sorry to hear about the delay. Here's hoping to a speedy seperation (in the nicest of ways) and to you being on the road this year!
