Weight of locost...........how do you lift yours?
NS Dev - 20/3/06 at 11:47 AM

Just mucking about in the garage last night as you do, and despite using a "boat anchor" vauxhall XE engine, and the car being pretty much complete in terms of weight, my brother and I noticed that we could lift the front or back of the car pretty easily!!!

This surprised me somewhat as I didn't think it would be that easy!

Can't wait to see what the finished car weighs now! I'll be surprised if it's much over 550kg!

Now i'm really worried that i'me building a bloater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was lying under the back end of mine last night, riveting the back panel on and tried lifting it in a bench press style.........and could'nt
and its not got wheels on or a fuel tank or rear wings on and its a BEC

I must be a real weakling , bring on the sand..

DarrenW - 20/3/06 at 03:12 PM

i wouldnt worry Reman. I dare bet Nat couldnt bench press his from underneath on his own!

Jon Ison - 20/3/06 at 04:45 PM

I can lift the front of mine single handed and slide the rear around the garage floor with a tug.

when i built my r1 indy i was into the weights ,i could bench press 120 kgs so whilst under the back of the car i thought id give it a go.lol i dont think i even raised the suspension, luckily no one was there to see me acting a tit

JoelP - 20/3/06 at 06:17 PM

bench press is a lot harder than a dead lift, or whatever its called, so it no suprise you couldnt move it!

iank - 20/3/06 at 07:09 PM

Aye, lifting with you arms ain't going to move it unless you are superhuman, lifting with your legs is at least possible for a light car.

BTW mind your backs, as you will look a real tit showing off to your mates then needing them to call you an ambulance

Nah! I couldn't bench press the damn thing!!!! My brother and I put our hands under the the tube that runs under the lower edge of the rear panel and lifted it from there pretty easily, and at the front we lifted it with our fingers though the holes in the alloys.

At the back on my own I can JUST take all the weight off the springs, but not quite get the tyres off the ground!

ned - 21/3/06 at 11:09 AM

without the rear panel on (so i have a good handhold) i can lift the weight enough to shuffle the car sideways in the garage..

zxrlocost - 21/3/06 at 03:35 PM
