I want to polish some stainless steel. I don't want a mirror finish, I just want to remove the "factory fresh" look. How do you polish metal?

use some autosol, you can buy it from Halfords. Its like a cutting paste , rub it in then buff off, works wonders.

Otherwise, get a corse polishing mop attach it to your drill and they will come up like bathroom towel rails

No... Go to Linky Thing

I fitted up my drill with a buffing wheel and the Blue and Green compund.

I would ask them at Shesto, as they can do small and half bars of compound.

Dont use a Sisal mop. its too coarse.
I use the Stiched and the meduim calico mops, and managed a near mirror finish on my stainless bits.

Word of warning, Use Safety specs and a paper face mask if using these compounds. You get fine bits of mop flying about, and they are impregnated with the compound. Not good for the lungs or the eyes.

You tend to get covered in the dirt!.
These are a good supplier, and are quick and helpful. used them several times.

I have now progressed to a large stiched wheel and use a 1300 watt garden shredder motor to drive it. It makes the stainless get really hot

PS... Wear Thick leather gloves as well, if it catches on the wheel, it could make a nasty cut on your hand. I use Welding gauntlets. Guess why??
