Northampton Locosters
kartman24 - 3/1/07 at 06:52 PM

I`ve just picked up a nearly finished Locost which has a number of things that need addressing before it would be ready for an SVA. I`d like to take a look at a couple of SVA`d cars and maybe get some input on mine, anyone on here help out?.........Martin

DIY Si - 3/1/07 at 06:54 PM

Where in/near Northampton are you? There's a few of use in the area.

scutter - 3/1/07 at 07:01 PM

Where abouts are you? give us a couple of weeks to bolt it back together and I'll need a drive to check everything out.

ATB Dan.

DIY Si - 3/1/07 at 07:13 PM

Oh, how much space is there to park several very fast cars outside your house, as this may determine how many turn up!
We could manage 5-8 cars easily, more if you wish to annoy people!

paulf - 3/1/07 at 07:14 PM

Depending on where you are , I am in Rothwell and have a car on the road was SVA ed in 2003.
It is presently on the road but I am about to start an engine swap to a zetec as soon as I have all the bits ready and sort the snags involved.
A few of us meet at the Overstone arms in Overstone on the second wednesday of each month from about 8pm onwards.
Paul.

JUD - 3/1/07 at 07:19 PM

Yes - would be good for a really valid reason for a run out - stop SWMBO from looking at me like I am mad!

Let us know where abouts you are - I know Toady1 (Liam) is still after a run out in mine, so that would give us a valid excuse for a reasonable trip!

Needless to say this is weather permitting!

Martin

DIY Si - 3/1/07 at 07:24 PM

Another good point here from Jud, about time I had an excuse to fix it and get out again before it snows. I quite fancy a ride in yours too at some point, as mine's the only Indy I ever actually been in!

kartman24 - 3/1/07 at 07:28 PM

Any of you know the Greyhound in Milton Malsor? I live in the village so maybe we could meet up there? When would be a good time for you guys...........Martin

DIY Si - 3/1/07 at 07:30 PM

Beer and cars?! If it's not raining you'll be fighting us off with a stick.

paulf - 3/1/07 at 07:42 PM

If the weather is ok how about Sunday lunch time? I could do with a run out and would be good to meet a few others from here.
Paul.

kartman24 - 3/1/07 at 07:45 PM

Sunday is ok here, How does 1pm sound?........Martin

DIY Si - 3/1/07 at 07:50 PM

Can do. Have to be in the tin top, as I probably won't have time to change the clutch on Saturday. Also, the Missus won't let me.

paulf - 3/1/07 at 07:50 PM

1 pm will be fine with me , checked forecast and it is said to be showers, so dependent on that as i have no weather gear just an aero screen.
Paul.

Trev D - 3/1/07 at 08:02 PM

Hi Martin I live in Northampton and I have a finished sva'd Locost, You can look at anytime you like.

All the best looking foward to seeing you
Regards
Trev

JUD - 3/1/07 at 08:05 PM

Yup found Milton Malsor on multimap - simple run out for me.

Will need to keep an eye on the weather - I'm a bit of a fair weather MK owner!

Are we still going for it if it is raining - i.e. a social rather than a car event?

Cheers

Martin

Trev D - 3/1/07 at 08:10 PM

Milton is about 1 mile from me I'm in West Hunsbury. TreV.

kartman24 - 3/1/07 at 08:15 PM

Even if it`s raining it would be good to meet some of you on Sunday. I didn`t realise there was one so close to me Trev, when would be convenient to come and take a peek?.........Martin

Trev D - 3/1/07 at 08:16 PM

Now.

DIY Si - 3/1/07 at 08:19 PM

I'm up for it regardless of the weather. I'm with Jud on that, I've only driven in the rain once, and don't intend doing it again soon! Blooming scary getting spin at 50 in 6th!

I'll second that motion. If you don't mind me turning up in the tin top.

Hey trev I notice that you film was on AGAIN the other day.

[Edited on 3/1/07 by jollygreengiant]

Trev D - 3/1/07 at 08:43 PM

Thanks for reminding me

flange nut - 3/1/07 at 09:06 PM

I've got an almost SVA ready Locost built from scratch by my own fair hands. You are very welcome to come and have a look at it, but it's not as shiney as Trev's. I'm on the East side of Northampton near Great Billing.

Geoff

JUD - 3/1/07 at 09:24 PM

OK then - I'm up for 1pm on Sunday at the Greyhound. Rain = tintop, no rain = MK.

Looks like you have a couple of local cars you can look at - so you can cover your SVA cribbing even if it is hammering down at the weekend!

Cheers

Martin

DavidM - 3/1/07 at 11:19 PM

I've got a book locost SVA'd 2006. You're welcome to have a look anytime, although it's in winter upgrade mode (in bits) at the moment.

It's not as shiney as Geoff's though!

......and it can't fly like Trev's....

Sorry Trev, but the film the other day brought back so many fond memories.

David

By the way Martin, what's the spec of your car?

David

scutter - 3/1/07 at 11:31 PM

I'll check with the SHMBO, I'll be in the tintop as the locost is in many many pieces.

ATB Dan.

DIY Si - 3/1/07 at 11:41 PM

Will any of us be going in the 7?

paulf - 3/1/07 at 11:45 PM

I will as long as the weather is reasonable, at present I trust it more than the tin top as that is using more water than diesel.
Paul.

hobbsy - 4/1/07 at 12:00 AM

I'll try and make it as I'm similarily about 5mins from the Greyhound. Will probably be in the tin top though as well as the Fury isn't taxed at the moment.

kartman24 - 4/1/07 at 08:58 PM

Thanks for all the replys of help, looking foward to meeting up on Sunday. The car has a book built chassis and is fitted with a 1600 x-flow and single weber carb, Escort axle etc..........Martin Rescued attachment brg Locost.jpg

paulf - 4/1/07 at 09:47 PM

Sounds much like mine, hope to be in it as the forecast is looking hopefull.
Paul.

G.Man - 4/1/07 at 10:07 PM

i think its fair to point out that very few of the cars you will see will actually pass sva today

DIY Si - 5/1/07 at 12:58 PM

Good point that. Mine does appear to have lost a few bits of trim. Oh, and the speedo sensor has gone south, so that doesn't work either!

paulf - 5/1/07 at 01:44 PM

Mines mostly still as it pased the SVA.
It has grown an aeroscreen since but still has most of the nut covers etc on it , I made a permanent job of the covers so as to not look out of place and provide protection for the bolts and dampers etc.
Paul.

JUD - 6/1/07 at 05:14 PM

Apologies - will have to give tomorrow a miss - got too much stuff happening at home. Will see the Oxford guys on Tuesday night. Anybody fancy coming along on Tuesday then check the thread that Scutter (Dan) has started.

Cheers

Martin

kartman24 - 6/1/07 at 05:20 PM

Does anyone who is coming tommorrow have a `concise` SVA list that would apply to a Locost, i`m wading through a PDF at the mo and a lot of it seems not to apply to an amateur build?.......Martin

paulf - 6/1/07 at 06:24 PM

I have some info relating to Westfields but very much the same , i will bring it along, have you a print out of the PDF info ? if so then we could go through that and ammend it as much as possible.
The weather isnt looinkg to good and suspect i may have to come in the tintop.
Paul.

kartman24 - 6/1/07 at 06:34 PM

Sorry i`ve just made a few pages of notes on what i think will be needed (on page 118 at present!) as i think my printer would start smoking if i ran it all off.......Martin

DIY Si - 6/1/07 at 06:40 PM

The main thing is figuring out where the floor line is from the cone shaped contact thigny, and then radiusing everything above there. Then radius everything inside, and watch the dash bottom edge radius too.

paulf - 6/1/07 at 10:20 PM

Martin have U2U ed my mobile number, I dont know the pub but will you be in the bar or lounge?.
Paul

hobbsy - 6/1/07 at 10:22 PM

Paulf - there isn't really a bar or lounge AFAIK - its all one big pub.

paulf - 6/1/07 at 10:26 PM

Ok sent mobile number to kartman , i will be there at 1pm.
Paul

kartman24 - 7/1/07 at 11:05 AM

Ok, lets hope the weather holds off so some of you can give your cars a run out. I`ll be wearing a black and red NASCAR jacket so you shouldn`t miss me..........Martin

jollygreengiant - 7/1/07 at 04:11 PM

Good to see you all there. I trust that you all had safe journeys home and that we will all meet again sometime soon.

Enjoy.

kartman24 - 7/1/07 at 06:20 PM

Nice to put names to faces, interesting to hear of so many variations on a theme, it will be a big help towards my SVA with so many helping guys around.....Martin

DIY Si - 7/1/07 at 06:36 PM

Nice to meet a few new faces. Should be a suitably large gang of us soon! We can go terrorise the local car clubs!

hobbsy - 7/1/07 at 07:33 PM

Sorry I didn't make it today guys - real shame as I'm only 5 mins down the road.

SWMBO wanted to go out for a romantic walk etc and I need to earn the brownie points so I can go to Autosport then on the lash in Brum afterwards next weekend.

If you do another one I'll definitely be up for it.

soggy 3 - 7/1/07 at 08:14 PM

Bugger i missed this thread i could do with the same info i wasnt that busy either.

DIY Si - 7/1/07 at 08:40 PM

See the thread I've just started about a meet near Silverstone, at the Green Man. Hoping for the end of the month sometime.

907 - 7/1/07 at 11:35 PM
