Help on pinto engine
david4 - 12/2/07 at 07:44 PM

please could anyone advise me on which radiator to fit into a locost with a pinto 2 litre engine. We have a radiator with pipes that face outwards that we think may come from a cortina. Also has anyone got any designs on alternater brackets. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks David

I used a Mk 1 polo rad on mine. Seems ok, even if it does run a tad on the warm side when standing still for any length of time.

As for brackets:

Original radiator that came with my kit was cortina, have replaced it with a twin core one from Robin Hood called a coolman.
It's about twice the depth.
Also added an oil cooler and a big ducted fan for the rad.

Alternator bracket i used was a standard ford ally one with a smaller belt, just ground back the bracket a bit so the alternator would move closer to the block giving me more clearance on the outside of the alternator for the steering shaft.

I used a MKII escort one, fits a treat inside my GTS body work.

I also had to make a alternator bracket to:-

1, Move the alternator in a as close to the engine as possible to free up some room.

2, I used a alternator from a Nissan Micra (it was small)

I welded 3 bits of 25mm x 5mm together to form a U shape, 2 holes to bolt it to the side of the block, a hole in each side for the alternator bolt,

Works a treat.

Cheers,
