I'm sure there were a couple of companies supplying off cuts of metals for hobby engineers like ourselves but can't find them anywhere. I
have tried a few Google searches with no success.
Does anyone have a link/contact?
Search for your local Metal Supermarket. They're not the cheapest but will provide small amounts and cut sheets to size for you.
Check out this LIST

I second metal supermarkets. They will cut however little you want from their warehouse full of stock.
Metal supermarket are pretty good. If the off-cuts are really small they sometimes don't charge
Otherwise the usual Ebay search finds a fair bit of metal stock...
If you can get into Cambridge check out MacKays (by the grafton centre)
http://www.mackay.co.uk/
They have a metal stockholder section out back by the car park. Good for small amounts and they cut while you wait.
The tool shop sells decent brands so is very good if not cheap
Bilsons in Kettering. all the metal bit I needed to finish of the build (engine mounts & column extension £3 and then some left over to do it
again)
Just call in to your Local stockist & ask about off cuts

Make sure that you take a well-stocked wallet - their metal is expensive! I must admit to buying stuff from there purely for convenience (i.e. I was in the area). They also sell chunky sizes in ali & brass, which are hard to find (or expensive to post) from on-line sources.
Also, don't go there if you're in a hurry - watching some of the staff in the metal salesroom is like watching poetry in motion (i.e. how slow can they really go without falling over, or going to sleep).
The nearest Metal Supermarket is in north London - great place if you're in the area, or you want enough stuff to warrant the journey.
