Heya,
Little help needed. I'm 19 years old and looking at insuring a Locost 1300cc.
How much would you reckon it'd cost - roughly? and who is the best company to speak to? Does anyone specialise in kitcar insurance.
I reckon i'd only being looking at insuring it for about £3000.
Thanks very much,
Nick
think again, there is a thread in the driving section on this, and the quotes are much cheaper, mine was £500-£750 and im only 19 (20 in a week) and
gonna be using a 1600 4age engine.
The oldies around these parts get quotes for 150-300.
I've not had any quotes yet, but I'm going to be disappointed if it costs much more than a hundred & 50 to 200 quid.
Fin,
Me thinks Nick may be referring to car valuation rather than premium. I could, of course, be very wrong!!

Not sure what you mean Simon - i want to insure the car so that i'm able to drive it....is that what you thought.
Anyway few other questions.
Whats the difference when they ask when the car was built?? Is it cheaper if the car is older or something??
Aussie - have a search on other threads re insurance. You'll get a few specialist names come up. Or use Google.co.uk
I'm with Adrian Flux for what its worth £175 but then I'm an old fart (30 you know).
Simon meant that you said the car was worth £3k, not that you (or Findlay)thought the insurance would cost that.
Regarding age - you will have to tell them the age of manufacture (on V5 i would imagine). Price dependant on many things like normal insurance - ie
your age, job, if car is garaged (unless you like it full of rain/snow, it probably should be!), postcode, etc.
Try to get an agreed value (£3k in this case?) - you'll need to send em some photos. Remember (if you watch antiques Roadshow you will already
know this) the replacement value may be more than the value of the car you bought, so take this into account when getting the value agreed.
Hope this helps, and welcome to the locostbuilders.
Mark
Ok thanks very much mate.
