Hi All,
At the moment I run an RS Turbo escort on trackdays but about 18 months ago I came across a sierra based 4x4 locost, part built.
The car was built in devon by somebody that has since moved to Coventry to work for Marcos, they sold the project to the chap I got it from.
It now sits in the garage waiting for me to strip it to rolling chassis. All the bacofoil panels, wiring, pedal box,fuel tank, well all of it apart
from drivetrain and suspension need to come off and be replaced. Whilst I'm at it might as well stick a cosworth 24v v6 in it.
My Westfield buddies reckon it might handle like pig and its too heavy, weight is not an issue when the driver is 6'1 and 20st.
Has anybody knowledge of a similar project and if so what does handle like?
Does anybody know the history of the heap in my garage? Any info would be much apprieciated.

Dax do a 4x4 version of the Rush based around the cosworth drivetrain so it's certainly feasible.
Handling will always be compromised by the huge lump of an engine/running gear. But it will still be seriously rapid compared to the tintop donor
weighing twice as much.

What sort of HP / torque figures can the 4x4 drivetrain take without ripping itself apart?
The MT75 box and sierra 4x4 drivetrain will take 300bhp and still be reliable according to the transmission guru I use.
Where's Liam nowadays, haven't heard from him for a while. He's building a Honda V6 powered 4x4 Locost - looked like an awesome chassis when I saw the pics.

Been off the project for a good few months with other commitments but it's back on now. I'm still doing final assembly and getting the
engine to run on the megasquirt.
Would be very interested in some pics of this project to see how things have been done - front prop and axle etc etc. So dig it out and get snapping!

I've ditched the old ford V6 in favour of a nice light honda ally V6, which will eventually be turbocharged. I'm on target for a 650kg
build which includes a full screen etc etc. This compares pretty well with some of the 2WD CECs. It's a bit of a pet hate of mine the way some
people bash those who want to fit big heavy engines in their locosts, claiming it'll handle like a barge/plough, steer like a tanker etc etc,
which is nonsense really. It's all relative and while it wont handle quite like a bec, even with that big iron and extremely heavy 24V V6,
you'll still end up with a car around the weight of a lotus elise. Hardly barge territory, so go for it if that's what you want to do!
