WARNING! - Please read if using electrolysis!
craig1410 - 15/1/04 at 08:38 PM

Hi,
If anyone is using the electrolysis method of rust removal then please refer to the end of the the original electrolysis thread as it has a serious health and safety warning.

Basically it says not to use stainless steel anodes under any circumstance as these produce very harmful chromate by-products from the chromium in the stainless steel. There is an article at the following address giving details:
http://www.oldengine.org/members/billd/electrol.htm

I thought I'd better create a new thread with this warning to make sure everyone saw it. Sorry if this doesn't apply to you.

Cheers,
Craig.

Bad chemical..

Steve,
Yes that's right, I mentioned it in the other thread. I have also emailed the guy who wrote the original article in Liam's posting to let him know about the problem.

Here's a link to a good website regarding the effects. Interestingly it states that stainless steel welding cause the worst occupational exposure to Chromium 6.

Cheers,
Craig.

Beware when hot working/welding anything stainless or stainless based as you will be burning chromium(part of the stainless alloy) and the fumes it gives off are not very nice toward your health.H.s.e & any work based safety reps have kittens if they catch you welding it without extraction.

Look at it this way Steve....

If having some banter keeps this thread at the top then we are doing our bit for the safety of our fellow builders....

And anyway, I'm quite fond of tits..
