garage extraction system

evening all,

just thought i'd ask if any of you have a home made exhaust extraction system in your garage, now that the cold is setting in, i want to be able to run the car in the garage for when im tuning with megasquirt. (around idle etc) i have been thinking that running a big pipe out through a window would be good enough, but would need some kind of clamp to attach the pipe to the end of the can that is fairly heat resistant, so im after idea's on what flexible pipes are available that would be up to the job?

cheers

Just a thought... would a pipe clamped onto the exhaust affect its tuning?

Depends how "tuned" your exhaust is i guess?

Rolling roads have a fan to suck the exhaust away down the large diameter pipe instead of clamping it on....

Dont know how much it would affect it.

i only need to get the car to a drivable state, then i can go out and datalog it and tune from there.

Just open the door a bit. Lol

Basically you can make an extractor. Just get some large diameter plastic pipe or ducting (150mm ish) and a desk fan the same size. Couple one to the other (making sure the fans sucking) and you are away.

Nothing too sophisticated, but it should work.

A rolling road place I worked at many years ago just opened the door

I nearly gassed myself with just the door open. Need doors both ends at least !!!

When I started mine just on the manifold in the garage with the door open I forgot that the larder and the cupboard under the stairs both have vents into the garage directly where my manifold was pointing. The garage wasn't too bad but the house stunk! To say I wasn't very popular is a bit of an understatement!! I've borrowed a big air mover and ducting from work now.

If you're just setting it up around idle, can you not just put another jacket on?! It can't take that long to sort out, can it?

I've thought about doing a similar thing myself, although I have just as much of a problem with the lingering petrol smell. I also agree that just opening the door is insufficient - I nearly gassed myself the other week!
