Are there any VW specialists in the house?

As above... is there anyone on here who happens to be a VW specialist?

I have an issue with a Polo ABS system that I would really appreciate some advice on.

Have you tried seeing if anyone local has VAG COM.
It's very handy for stuff like this.

You haven't said what the problem is, but try changing the brake lamp bulbs - don't ask!

Whats the problem?

For a problem like that always check whats up on diagnostics equipment. if your going to use it now and again buy one from gendan automtive like there handheld tester for £40ish as that will easily be the going rate in a independent garage.

I have Vag-Com...its showing bad stuff...

Basically the ABS light comes on occasionally... I hadnt seen it for a few months, but it came on on Friday and wont go off again.....

The Vag-Com says this:
------------------
Address 03: ABS Brakes
Controller: 6X0 907 379 C
Component: ABS/EDS 30 IE CAN V004
Coding: 05603
Shop #: WSC 00788
1 Fault Found:
01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64)
16-10 Signal Outside Specifications- Intermittent
-------------

I have reset the error code, but I suspect it will return next time I take the car out...

I was just wondering if we had a VW technical person onboard who could suggest what the prefered course of action would be with such a fault?

Googling it suggests that it might be a dodgy connector, or the ABS control unit itself...

But I am unsure how to proceed... as an ABS controler is not cheap!

Any easy one ! very common VW fault --- what I am about to tell you may well save you 300 quid for an exchange ECU+pump.

"FAULT:
ABS lamp comes on, fault code 01276.
CAUSE :
When the ABS cable loom is damp and the vehicle is operating at high engine speed leakage current of the ignition coil gets into the suppressor of the pump sensor cable.
SOLUTION:
Change the routing of the pump sensor cable. Route the ABS pump sensor cable and engine speed sensor cable away from the ignition transformer to the arch by unwrapping the engine speed sensor cable and pump sensor cable to the arch. Wrapping up the pump sensor cable without engine speed sensor.
Rerouting the engine speed sensor cable on the bulkhead. Routing the pump sensor cable and fastening it with existing cable binder to suspension strut housing."

I had considered something similar to that... but not quite that complex...Worth a look..

If you dont mind... what is the source of your information?

Afriend of mine had a similar thing with her renault clio turned out to be the metal clips on the cv boots interferring with the sensors.. Changed them for plastic cable ties . all ok now and been like that 2 years

I have 26 polos on my courtesy car fleet, this is quite a regular thing, it may not be the brake lamp bulbs, but in the last 15 instances it has been the brake lamp bulbs failed or impedance impared.
