Paul TigerB6 - 17/3/09 at 02:27 PM

Well they went and did it - the champion will be decided on race wins!!!

linky!!

JoelP - 17/3/09 at 02:31 PM

i like the moveable aerodynamics option on a capped budget, there is serious potential there!

Would you really expect Mclaren/Ferrari/Toyota to sack 9 in 10 of their employees?

Schumacher used to earn nearly that much a year alone!!!

James

I love the whole F1 circus. With the season starting soon its good to raise the profile with a few contentious announcements!

serious potential for new teams to get an advantage on uncapped teams. Imagine levelling the wings off on the straights and putting them back up for the corners. Will open it up for more teams to compete.

Most wins is a bad idea

It doesn't reward reliability.
It encourages team orders.

Its all nonsense

Matt

Exactly - so we are going to see some mysterious brakedowns this year.......... or some very strange spins!!

bilbo - 17/3/09 at 03:42 PM

As said, I don't like this race wins business. However, I do think this spending cap is a good idea - should promote ingenuity. I wonder if it includes driver salaries or not?

NigeEss - 17/3/09 at 04:05 PM

Alain Prost must be a bit miffed, would have been 9 times champion !

DaveFJ - 17/3/09 at 04:18 PM

hmmmm

the spending cap is optional... how the f*** does that work?
Ferrari> "we decided not to cap or spending... oh look we won..."

love the idea that they have changed the rules yet again after our boy won it last year!! if they applied the new rules to last years season guess who would have won??? give you a hint - he drives a red car!!!

Ermmmm - you???

sucksqueezebangblow - 17/3/09 at 04:26 PM

Anything that encourages overtaking and increases the number of teams is fine by me!

vinny1275 - 17/3/09 at 04:29 PM

Agreed, I don't like the wins idea - someone could win 5 races, and crash in the other 12, yet beat someone else to the championship who wins 4 races and comes second in 13...

The capped budget thing is a bit weird. Being able to have more free reign over how you design the car is great, but what's the point if you don't have the money to develop it? 30m to run a team for a whole season is peanuts, especially as the reason given is to encourage new teams - what would it cost to set up a new race team, buy the autoclaves for all the carbon, employ talented staff, get trucks, design the car, get CFD system in - there's no way you could be competetive. Nice to think they would be, but soooooo unlikely...

Still looking forward to the new season tho!

The Constructors championship will still be on points.

So there's still reason to complete a race to get the team constructors points.

I'll have to have a word with my man at Mclaren to see what he thinks!

Cheers,
James

See what you can find out James. My point was more for the drivers title - it encourages teams to always have one of their drivers win in a 1 - 2 situation

designer - 17/3/09 at 06:10 PM

Why didn't they just change the points scoring to benefit the winner. Give him ten points more than second place.

Another nail in the coffin I'm afraid. And now that Murray's back; God help us!!

Get the blokes off MotorGP.

JoelP - 17/3/09 at 08:11 PM

i guess £30m probably wouldnt even get your equiptment to every circuit for the race!

I believe Super Aguri's budget was about £50m.... spirited and passionate as they were, see what that got them!
