How to - Alarm tonnaeu cover
MikeLR - 27/3/09 at 10:34 AM

Posted here as its an "Anything else " !
I now have a full tonneau cover and was wondering if it is possible to incorporate an alarm via it.
My thoughts are, if you connect two adjacent press fixings on the tonnaeu; say with a hidden wire and connect the two corresponding base fixings on the scuttle into an alarm so that when the tonneau is fixed it connects the circuit.
Break the circuit and bingo alarm goes off !! The alarm could be set by remote or a key into side of scuttle. The next question is "how do I do it ?"
Come on you experts, there must be someone on here who can do it ?
regards
Mike

Wouldnt it be simpler to fit some light sensors in the cockpit?

If the cover is lifted, light gets in and triggers the alarm....

Why not a microwave motion sensor as is normal in soft-tops?

Your sensor won't detect a swiss army knife!

Considering how cheap PIR sensors are I'd be tempted to use that..... Fit one under the dash pointing up towards the seats. Bingo....

Spring button on the dash where the cover clips down. Anytime the cover is removed the button pops up, easy

Most alarms have an accessory wire. simply a loop that when broken triggers the alarm.
You connect the loop wires to 2 adjacent press studs under the body. You then start from one of these studs on the tonneau then connect every stud in series finishing off with the next adjacent stud.

Tonneau on, alarm on. If any one lifts any stud alarm will go off.

now the stinger - connecting each stud on the tonneau will look potentially messy. You will also need to have toneau fitted to set the alarm unless you make yourself a loop connectin bit of wire (length of wire with stud at each end).
