What size generator for a wedding ??
Andybarbet - 14/4/09 at 10:46 PM

Ok, possibly having our wedding in a field, it looks better than it initially sounds !

We have access to the field, plenty of parking & a real old fashioned circus tent style marquee thrown in - all this from a family friend for nowt (How locost is that )

We basically need a rough idea of what size generator we will need to hire or borrow ?

There will be about 60 people invited, a small band/ singer (my cousin) and i suppose we will need some lighting in the evening, anyone done this sort of thing before ???

Any input appreciated,

Regards Andy

10kva should run everything with power to spare.

...depending on how big the tent is of course, and how you are going to light it.

Most people underspec generators for weddings and events, 10KVA is far to small (im a generator engineer) minimum is 15KVA for a marquee, there will be some small fluctuations of the lights if your running large impact loads such as tea urns etc, Andy U2U me and i will provide you details of the company i work for so they can quote you mate, your looking at 18KVA roadtowable silenced set depending on the lighting arrangements 3 or single phase theres a company in nazing called templant who can help you with all that and another in maulden nr ampthill called bubbles lighting they provide alot of lighting and distro for film sets and parts etc so are experts in this. drop me a u2u and i will help anyway i can mate

Is there anything this website can't solve?

You know the ceremony has to be in a licenced venue (which has to be a building of some sort), you can't just do it anywhere??

The wedding itself is in the village church where my partner grew up so no probs with that part.

Cheers for the info guys, got some bits to be going on with now

As mentioned before, its amazing how quick you get answers to some strange questions on here, its great !
