And I thought this forum had stooped as low as it could go.
Funny stuff yes, rude stuff within reason...
But this hammers down all decency and craps on it's grave.
So much for it being a f*cking car building community forum.
It's turning into a pile of shite.
Give me a shout when it's back to being half normal.
I'm with Hip-ster on this one. Please guys, clean it up a bit.
you didnt click the links did you?!
should start a new poll, who clicked on stapleballs' links, and who wanted to but didnt....!
Seeing as this is a sexuality post and there's so far been no porn links:

ps I'm straight, sorry guys.

I don't think it's a matter of decency suddenly going out of the window or this suddenly becoming a much less car-focused forum because of
one post that includes a link to a gay sex photo. Nobody seems to have a problem with the other pornographic and other off-topic material posted in
the "anything else" section..
If people know they're going to be offended by images of homosexuality I suggest they overcome their curiosity and not click on links. It
wasn't even posted as an inline image..
just my 2p
if the mention (and a link that i removed) of gay sex is lowering the tone of the site, why the hell is it any different to hetro sex, or lesbian
sex?
how is it any different to half of the threads here ending at "i like boobies"?
what if there's wimmins on the site? i bet they love that.
we're all adults, if you don't want to see something, don't click the link.
one last little point, what if i found pictures of topless wimmin offencive or sickening. would that lower the tone of the site?
[Edited on 2/3/04 by Staple balls]
Can't remember too many moans about being off-topic when we were debating John Leslies bird, Jordans tits, etc etc
And I seem to remember no links either, the photos were included.......
If you don't want to look at the photos -DONT CLICK ON THE LINK...
As for me, I'll happily click on links/photos etc of striaght porn anytime!
Certainly beats chewing the fat with you lot of car obsessed wierdos!!
The good thing about this site is lack of censorship and general freedom...we are pretty good at sel-policing and following our own (often unwritten)
guidelines...
Someone suggests something reasonable and almost everyone complies...e.g....maybe a couple of years ago I asked a guy if he would change his name
from "f**k authority" to something a little more acceptable...everyone agreed that it was better if swearing was reduced and kept out of
names and subject titles....
It seems to work.....
So. back to this.....it was suggested that graphic images were best linked with warnings...rather than posted directly.....and again people seem to
have followed this......
Despite the subject not being to everyone's taste I feel that our own unwritten guidelines were followed....
Posted in anything else
linked off-site
warnings posted
Verdict....Defendant - not guilty
Judge Alan B....
[Edited on 2/3/04 by Alan B]
Well, just as I've never done anything good and admirable when drunk, I've never done anything noble while viewing porn, either
IMO, it arguably doesn't represent the best side of human nature, and we'd do well to keep hard-core links off the site. Remember, some
Locosts are built by (or admired by) youngsters who may be viewing.
Just my $.02,
Pete
Edit: Not advocating censorship in any way, btw. The world is already too excessively controlled for my taste!
[Edited on 2/3/04 by pbura]
A little while ago I mentioned that putting rude/lewd/nude pictures "in-line" made reading this site impossible in the office. I then asked
that any rudeness should be put in a link, with a clear warning.
This is exactly what was done here - in fact, he said "you don't want to look at this!" or similar.
So I didn't.
I have no complaints...

I've changed my mind. This is the "Anything Else" section, and car building obviously isn't limited to hetero's who like
chicks...
Bang away, oops, I mean post away...
PS- Since we are being so open about ourselves, I must confess - I am a gay lesbian nazi biker chick...

i too find it saddening that your son doesn't have open minded teachers at an important time in his development
i also find it sadening that your son might be viewing such material while at school - the topic clearly states sexuality and therefore he should know
better under the schools rules and code of conduct not to click on anything sexually related as this may lead to him being reprimanded.
and added, if he was looking at a forum that discusses cars, is he studdying cars for D&T or having a quick 5 mins while the tutor was not
watching?
[Edited on 2/3/04 by Graceland]
I notice nobody has ticked the gay pole.............hmmm i could have chosen my words better there, but you know what i mean.
well if you want to be technical, i am gay, but every once in a while i get the urge to nail a lass - how odd. lol
another one (ducky) i'm pretty much the same.
has it's upsides though.
try get a bird to help you put an engine in
lmao - dunno what the upsides are - used to let it get me down bigtime and denied it summat rotten and hated it, but ya gotta live with the deal you are dealt i suppose
I read this thread as "Bi-sexual man tentatively seeks other interested parties" Would that be fair?
I do think that orientations of sexuality/politics/religion are not polite conversation, therefore probably not the sort of thing to be
discussed on here.
I hope that doesn't sound too negative, but I rather expect others have similar thoughts.
Cheers,
Neil.
why not?
comes properly under "anything else" i think
and is that a threat syd? i'm sure your son will like to see what a prat his dad is. i'll give you a fair chance to retract that comment.
all negative comments appreciated provided they are constructive.
but syd - you are failing to see the point of this thread - there has been no pornographic referances made, no images posted and certainly lewd
comments or anything else which would contravein the general politeness of the forum, swearing and offensive language included.
and if your comment about standing face to face is meant to be a threat, then please, there is no need for such childish acts of verbal violence - if
i want that, i will goto work and get paid for the pleasure.
one word does spring to mind tho - homophobe.
and no dating arrangements or lonely hearts section on here and there aint any need to be - i'm happily taken with my fella, why would i need to
advertise?

it was more human interest about the view our society has of everyone who builds a kitcar/locost being a middle aged, married, hetrosexual man riding a mid life crisis
noodle, you do have a valid point and it was well made.
unlike some peoples..
i can see where you are coming from with the polite conversation Neil - but it really hasn't degenerated into anything nasty as there has been no violence, abuse, lewd pictures posted, foul language or any other things that would be considered offensive, apart from someone been gay - soceity needs to take a step back and look at whats going on - a few years ago it was frowned upon and considered wrong, today you can walk down the center of manchester or leeds and see plenty of homosexual couples with hardly anyone battering an eyelid
i believe society falls into two main groups here, those who see it as a perversion and those who see it as personal choice. There is then some middle
ground for those who say 'whatever in your own home'. I believe this thread merely highlights these groups.
i would agree with those above who, quite rightly, say that there is nothing excessivly offensive in this thread (at least now the links are
gone!).
WHATEVER FLOATS YOUR BOAT.... as someone once said.
you gonna say hello to me at the next meet Joel? lol
I agree with Joel.
This thread has brought to light peoples opinions of sexuality, whether they be accepting views or not. People should not be ashamed of their
sexuality these days...why should they be? The only thing that puts people off coming out is the fact that they are worried about peoples opinions. I
admire anyone who will proudly/openly admit they are gay/bi, we are living in the 21st century and peoples opinions shift with the times.
Its about time people started accepting eachother for who they are!
Chill out a bit... theres nothing here thats harmful to anyone!

LMAO @ village people
wonder how many motorbikers there are on here who wear flat leather caps. ummmmmmmmmmmm
loool
hehehe, 4 of them were straight anyway
Just my 2 cents
I am surprised that this has grown to be one of the biggest threads I have seen in hear in a while.
And two I guess that when you are posting on the web about building your car the assumption is then the person on the other end is like you after all
they are also interested in building a car, this is just a reminder that that is not the case and not to judge people take them for what they are.
It is also interesting to see the range of responses on the sight.
I think the fact that a teature would consider not following a particular project because there is the possibility of there being gay or bi sexual
people involved very short sighted as surly that means that there are no projects that thay can follow.
PS sorry about my spelling and grammar.
Since a large % of the general poulation have had some gay/bi experience, then a % of the average meeting at Newlands etc has had some....
As has a % of the posters here.....
And as for threats of 'face to face' meetings etc....
We should be moaning about that, pathetic as it is..
You never know who you're posting about. There's at least one ex marine commando that posts here....
Personally I actually think that it's quite a valuable question that leads to a better understanding of those people building their own cars.
I haven't seen a single post here that could be construed as offensive.
My opinion of this hobby *was* that it's done by: white, middle-aged, working-to-middle class, straight, men.
I was therefore interested to see the poles awhile ago about peoples ages/jobs and found that there were as many youngsters (like me- 20's )
as there were middle-aged and that as many people do IT as there are mechanics.
As regards the results of this pole- I'm not surprised no one has yet said they're gay. I have several gay friends and having talked about
this hobby with them its just not something they can even concieve of doing- much as unlike them I can't see me making my own curtains!
But then again I may only know a certain 'set' of gay people and maybe there's crowds of gay mechanics out there!
Jumpy,
As you say clearly a certain percentage of the population is gay but we're skewing the results because- as I said above- in my opinion this (in
general!!!) isn't the sort of hobby done by gay men. Or atleast the ones I know!
Anyway, this is just a few opinions but I'm not very good a arguing points so I'll stop gibbering now!

Perhaps intervention or comment from our wise and masterful single handed webmaster/moderator Mr ChrisW who runs this site is required?
just a thought....

I watch the Australian lists, and the USA, and have yet to encounter anything such has just occurred here. The others seem to keep to topic, and common decency. There's nothing grossly wrong in a pic of a naked female, done tastefully and forewarned.
But some of the comments previous are, quite obviously, those of juvenile minded persons.
Maybe it's time for some guidelines, and more active moderation.
I spoke to the teacher concerned this morning. His comment was to the effect that he would not want his students to come into contact with the Locost community, if the latest image is representitive of the group as a whole, and that a presumably technical list can be allowed to degrade to this. His words were that it 'says a lot about those involved'. I have to say that I agree with him.
The thing is, I know that a large number of this lists' contributors agree with me as well, but just won't stand up and say it.
this is an interesting forum, if you speak foreign. those you who don't can just look at the pictures. warning: this is a heterosexual orintated
site with some adult content.
http://forum.flabber.nl/
perhaps this will bring back up the question as to whether we feel this site needs to have moderators????
Ned.
There should be no need for moderators. As long people clearly state the subject matter, and post links to material that people may find offensive
with a suitable warning.
This is exactly what happens on this site, i havent yet come across a thread that is intentionally misleading or that forces you to see something you
dont want to. If you dont like the sound of a thread....dont click it.
Maybe a minimum age (16?) to be a member may be more appropriate?
David
or some sort of general disclaimer before signing up, stating you agree to x,y,z by registering to use this site?
if people have to have agreed to this, before using hte site, then tough imho. guests could also then be directed via the disclaimer or something. it
could even be set by a cookie etc..
Ned.
Could be good. But IMHO i think the forum does a very good job of self policing. People soon complain if there is something wrong, and if there is
enough opposition the thread or message usually dissappears.
The opions in here are the opinions of the people who write the messages. If someone doesnt agree, they can either say so or not as the case may
be.

dear god, this is one of the busiest threads i've seen anywhere in quite a while.
and y'know. i'm glad i started it, it's let me certainly see that i'm not surrounded by 40+ white, hetrosexual (and while not
homophobic, incapable of accepting) men.
now. syd, i'm very sorry that your kid's teacher sees this one thread, on a messageboard, in the ANYTHING ELSE section as a general view of
the locost community
y'know we can't have too many openly bi/gay people interested in such manly and butch hobbies...
ok, now while having marked bisexual on the poll, when it comes down to it I am Gay. the reason i marked myself as Bi, is because it's
easier than explaining stuff (i'm pretty much bi curious from the gay side)
ok, that's syd/teacher, sexuality. what else?
ahh yes.
thanks to all the open minded people who can see this thread as an insight into who were are as a group and idividuals, i owe you a pint.
edit: moderation is in my opinion a bad idea.
say... what if syd or hippy was a mod? this thread would be long gone, and we'd lose this whole, interesting insight into the community we have
here.

Roll on posts like this- Locostbuilders provides me with the only entertainment during an otherwise empty 8.5hours per day sitting at this God forsaken desk/office!
James
I think this site should stay as it is, i have been a member here for almost a year, although not as long as most i still feel i know how it works.
The posts self moderated really, if a member sees something they dont like they will say about it, and if people dont agree there will be a debate,
normally it is resolved. As for guests and such seeing stuff they dont like, if everything is put in the appropriate forum and labeled (no open
links), there shouldnt be a problem. I was a member of clubGTI and their forum was awful, so many posts got deleted or edited, sounds abit like TOL.
During the time ive been using this forum i dont think ive seen something that offended me or i thought was very unappropriate.
Also since ive been here i have never seen any pictures of hetero sex (maybe i havent been looking hard enough!) I think most people are getting
annoyed as the picture was of gay sex, (although it was clearly linked and warned about). Im sure they wouldnt have minded if u had linked to picture
of some blokes bum or something.
Anyways, i dont think we should be worried about the gay community on this site, more the the ones who chose the "other" column!!!
it's them bloody welsh, chasing the sheep around the hills
Back on the moderation front, I can only think of one instance where a post was edited by 'da managment' and i believe it was at the request
of the user referred to in the thread, for legal/dvla reasons...
Ned.
Before your time mate!
James
my take?
If people want to be gay, great.
If they want to be a friend, great, I would have no probs with that.
If they want to share a tent with me at a show, thats a nope!
atb
steve
voted straight.
Now - serious question.
women are fantastic. I cant see any reason no way no how that I would prefer a hairy assed bloke to a curvaceous boobed beautiful woman.
I dont understand gay men.
If its not gonna decend the thread into depths of hell, it would be interesting to know why peeps have this preference......
no need for graphical stuff please....
Steve,
I think it (homsexuality) should be encouraged as much as possible!!!
Leaves more single women for me!
James
for me it's not a sexual thing, it's all good as far as i'm concerned.
but i prefer guys for the relationship aspect, in that i have more common ground with guys, tend to get on better with them.
hell, current relationship time.
with a lovely guy, a little geeky, quite gay and all round a nice bloke. now, when we're together a lot of the time we're just best friends
and you'd assume we're straight, but we also have a level of geeky friendship and an intimate level.
it's hard to explain. but it's all good
i can converse a whole lot better with men - but it wont affect my swing - but can see your point.
Agreed james - good strategy. However, it might pay to fake being gay. an 18 year old I worked with recently preferred gay guys as friends as they
were less threatening....... stealth approach methinks!

hehe
all crappy american friday evening shows should be banned
the stealth approach does work! I'm 100% straight (well, apart from when abused as a child, but i don't like to talk about that) and i once
somehow got mistaken as gay on a night out and all the ladies seemed to love me, nearly pulled several of em and got away with it as their
friends/blokes thought i was harmless. excellent.

lets play spot the mumbly!!!
its not hard he's wearing sandals,
what a thread.... must surely be the record for speed of growth.
but yeah, sod moderation straight off. if ya must, a disclaimer on this section but its a bit of ball ache for chris, i wouldnt expect him to be
arsed. maybe make this section members only. couldnt really care myself, the Jenkins Law works very well...
but a toast to most of the above anyway, i think we really are a unique community here.
i applaud thinkers who come up with their own moral codes without taking anything as written in stone. listen but never be led. we're called
sapiens for a reason...
Just like to tip my hat to those standing up for community moderation (ie no enforced moderation) and freedom of speech wrt. sexuality. I must say I
feel a bit more comfortable on the forum knowing I am surrounded by such open-minded and tolerant people, with the occasional exception.
Incedentally, I ticked for bi-curious. Never done anything much with a guy, and am happily with the latest of several women at the moment.. but I
think there's always room for curiosity in life.

I don't want to know what you've been sticking in your nostrils to make them so big.
You don't get excited in sandals then? I think sandals and socks on older men are some kind of giveaway, always looks sus to me. I'm
definitely voting for straight, gives me the creeps when I see two blokes tonguing each other even on the telly. I don't mind what anybody does
with another consenting animal or person but when you have to put their back legs in your wellies to stop them getting away I think that's rape
and it's a no~no. I was worried when the Conservatives were in as I thought the homosexuality bill was going to be a kind of back door tax
scam.
yours, Pete.
back door tax scam - not pun intended pete?

Just thought I'd add one more to the list to totally throw the "kit car builders are all middle aged straight blokes etc. etc."
Just Cos I'm young & never quite got the "straight thing" doesn't mean I can't build a kitcar (yes, I did vote gay).
Personally don't understand you str8 guys, but what the heck don't really care as long as your into car's thats all i care about, just
wish eveyone would give me the same curtesy. But then I'm not in your face so you'd never know. And why is it every str8 guy automatically
assumes a gay guy's gona find u attractive?
As for curtain making; Er, don't think so (think you need to drop the stereo-type); rather stick to my engineering design - at least I know what
i'm doing.
P.S. Nice to know I'm not quite the only gay nutter out there (there's at least one other)
i think the several months that have passed since the last post show that we really dont give a crap.
i will never understand homosexuals, but it doesnt mean that i dont expect them to be able to build cars, or be 'normal' in every other way.
perhaps the issue for homosexuals at present is their need to promote their 'cause' as loudly as possible - ie peter tatchell - and like you
just did
happy building

i'm a manly, straight, veritable Burt Reynolds.
I'm also cracking on for middle age so hoping a nice kit car will help me pull the young totty.

Somehow I missed this thread! Very interesting it is too, and supports my theory that the fact that nature is random means that not all macho
mechanics are "entirely" straight, and not all hairdressers are gay!! (sorry for the stereotypes there but it illustrates a point!)
I also agree with those saying that this is an "anything else" area, and they can comment as they wish, quite correct too!
Keep up the "anything else" flavour I say!!!
blast from the past! i think i've already voted
Nice thread. Very entertaining. Im as straight as you can get but i do like lesbians - does that make me a lesbian as well?????
may be you're a lesbian trapped i a man's body, just like me
for my halfpence worth, I subscribe to the views of somebody I know, that everybody really fits into just one of the voting classes, and they just vary from one extreme to the other within that "classification".

Tend to agree really. Certainly for women atleast, not sure about men so much though. I was under the impression that men tended to be one way or the other and women were the ones on the curiosity scale! But everyone's different I guess which is what makes life so interesting!
Then again, maybe it's a society thing though- curious men would rarely admit it publicly whilst plenty of women would.
Pity the poll didn't include curious_male or curious_female (if you see what I mean) which would give more evidence!
Or maybe I'm just talking complete rubbish which is far more likely!
All the best,
James

i applaud thinkers who come up with their own moral codes without taking anything as written in stone. listen but never be led. we're called sapiens for a reason...
