Sorry for the blatant, misleading, title because I'm sure someone WILL know
Question: What is a splitter?
I assume it's some sort of bodywork/aerodynamic gizmo, but other than that I'm clueless
Cheers
Alan
I've heard of a splitter box,as used on very big lorries/trucks.
12 forward gears, use the first 6 then pull the splitter on gear stick and run through them again but in different ratios.
Any good
Thanks Bob,
I'd heard of something like that, but this is something the bolt-on boys can buy
I think it may be a kind of horizontal close to the ground front skirt type thingy often with adjustable stays, but I'm not sure.
I'll guess we'll both be wiser soon
The reason I ask is there's guy building the new westfield XTR2 and he mentions a carbon splitter.
Cheers
At the risk of sounding a smart ass, i think I know.
Its a small aerodynamic strip, fitted to the lower edge of the front valence. In other words, its the firs thing that gets ripped off it you drive
forwards into a kerb. Not by experience btw.
XJS have something that 'might' be a splitter on the front. They overheat without it. It causes, in that case, a greater negative pressure under the
car and helps air flow through the bonnet.
My last company car, a mazda 323 zxi had one as decoration i think.
Also. Alfa got into trouble, around 1994, when they ran a front splitter on the 155 in the UK touring cars series.
So yes, it certainly a front aerodynamic aid.
Now ive told you are you gonna fit one, or it it like your stabiliser bar, for knowledge purposes only
atb
steve
Aye, what Steve said...
Thanks Steve, that kinda fits in with the vague research I'd conducted so far

ISTR that a splitter also serves (with race cars) to separate the air sat against the track surface from the layer of air just above it.
The air against the road is warmed by the road on a warm / hot day, so the splitter allows the cooler (and denser) air to be drawn for cooling and
combustion, leaving the warmer air to pass under the car unused.
John.
I think the People's Popular Front of Judea were "bloody splitters"
(Life of Brian joke - please ignore)
Cheers
Chris

next time ur in ur newsagents get a max power mag (and make sure no one sees u) its a front spoiler basically on race cars it acts like the front wing on a f1 car (only on a smaller scale) but all the boy racers fit them just so they can smash them on every sleepin police man on town.

is there women in maxy pants??????
it musta gotten better since i last got it...
i must add that was 7 yrs ago and in my defence i was a 16yo apprentice and didnt no any better
MaxyP has more women than cars. It's often referred to by us 'serious' boy racers as a 14 year old's porno
Chris
talkin of maxy pants theres a guy in my estate runnin about in a mk5 escy convertable with a replica f2 maxi kit car body kit on it and a ford logo
from the leading edge of the front door all the way to the bac quarter panel looks ok apart from the sticker except hes mixed out 2 very cruical
points.
rally cars run with longer wheelbases than standered therefore his front wheel looks as if its pushed bac
2) rally cars run wider track therfore his front wheels sit in about 6inches from the outside of the arch
i must also add that this is my reason for building a locost
well some has to show them how it SHOULD be done
Hahahahaha
Whoop their lame asses with what, compared to a crappy Escort cock-up is sheer class....

I bought max power for the ads once.....honest.
I remember a bit in the front with piccies of young 'ladies' from down at the last burn up at mcdonalds.
Amoungst their vital stats was asking if they spit or swallow. I really cant see how they finish their chewing gum has any bearing on custom cars at
all!!!!
I bought Max Power issue 1 'cos you got a free cap with it . My idea of a splitter is something to bust the rubber seals on ball-joints so
you can't re-use them.
Pete.
Alan
To get an idea of whats in the max power magazine have a search on the net under maxpower.
I think that should do it
And i still think its a gearbox
Does anyone else think the name is ironic cos when i last got it apparently all u needed was a k&n and a set of split fire plugs to give you "max
power" oh i and a bac box with a tail pipe that wouldnt look outta place in iraq
and i bet you's all wasted money on webers and cams and stuff
I bought the issue of Max Power with the twin engined VW Golf. It had a poster of the said Golf, and it had Jo Guest on the other side. I put it up
on the Golf side cos I was cool.
I get to see real life Max Power every day cos I live in Bedford. There's really no place quite like it. There are 'cruises' all the time in
Megabowl car park, and Bedford high street is pretty much a drag strip for Novas. I really can't wait till my Locost is finished and I can show these
nobs what a real car is The really funny thing is that there is a new Saxo in town (1.1gl or something) and the paintjob on that thing easily
cost more than my entire Locost will. Idiots...
one of our company directors daughters got her ka bumpers painted in this new pearlescent paint bearing in mind we are not only the main supplier to
mtr fact over here but also have a chain of mtr fact which supply ppg paint and own a train school for the body shop apprentices i.e. we get the stuff
cheap and the labour at the school is nill.
it was reported that the 2 bumpers and those silly arches cost £600 to paint that is definatly bout twice wot my build will be
Ok then back to the point if anyones interested, demon tweeks tuning and performance catalogue 02(blue one)
