scootz - 17/6/09 at 07:12 PM

Pearl Jam - Ten

Some great suggestions, have probably heard or own 90% of those mentioned.

I'll second the Probot and Dream Theatre Albums too.

I should also add:

Motorhead - Inferno
Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage

cryoman1965 - 17/6/09 at 07:21 PM

Saxon-Wheels of Steel

tomprescott - 17/6/09 at 07:23 PM

Dragonforce? All these great albums being posted and then you ruin it with Dragonforce, haha.

Disturbed - Ten Thousand fists
Greenday - Dookie
G n' R - Use your illusion 1
Kittie - Until the end
Marilyn Manson - Lest we Forget
Offspring - Smash
Tenacious D - Tenacious D

maartenromijn - 17/6/09 at 07:36 PM

I used to listen to this stuff when I was 15, only 17 years ago...
When I hear a metal song I enjoy it a lot, but for some kind of reason I listen to other music now: Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Chris Rea (Auberge!), Dire Straits, etc.

02GF74 - 17/6/09 at 07:39 PM

nirvana/pearl jam are grunge not metal.

Led Zep not metal, more like rock but I'll include.

Black Sabbath - 1
AC/TC Back in black
Led Zep - I (or is it II)?
Iron Maiden - Number of the Feast (song about chinese take aways?)
Buns and Roses - apettite for cakes
Metallica - eponymous
Hawkwind - Space Ritual

... struggling, metal is not my bag TBH.

flak monkey - 17/6/09 at 07:49 PM

I did include rock and or metal, or anything guitar based. Anyway I am not getting into the this is metal and thats not argument. If you like it, listen to it dont worry what someone else thinks of it.

And dont knock Dragonforce. I got into them back in the days before every school kid had heard of them and Through the Fire and the Flames. They have many better songs too. Sonic Firestorm is also an excellent album (check out Dawn Over a New World and My Spirit Will Go On)

If it's rock/metal, I'll listen to it*, Pretty sure all the true classics have been listed already

At the moment I have a soft spot for Korpiklaani - Spirit of the forest. it's a little, different, but I enjoy it.

*Apart from Metallica, Lars is a prick (sorry, whenever metal is mentioned someone has to moan about Metallica, it's the law)

rgdavid - 19/6/09 at 09:55 PM

what about Thin Lizzy, their songs "china town" & "killer on the loose" are excelent,

i'm more of a motorhead fan though,

oops showing my age, my neibours love em...... or not

gazza285 - 20/6/09 at 08:47 AM

No Slayer? What's wrong with you people?

Strapping Young Lad?

how come?

gazza285 - 20/6/09 at 02:41 PM

Damn forum, changed p1ss to wee. Never seen a band drink so much and still be able to play, would end up carrying Tomas to the van every night. Great band though, great fun on the road.

UncleFista - 20/6/09 at 11:10 PM

Heh, I've met at the gates a couple of times, the singer was always hammered
I mean hammered compared to the rest of the band, who were hammered. Never had to work with 'em though.

Slayer, saw 'em first time at Manchester over 20 years ago Jeez...

Strapping Young Lad's "Heavy as a really heavy thing" is on my phone, love it. I do like a decent drummer, which is probably the reason I still listen to MDB every now and again

gazza285 - 21/6/09 at 12:51 AM

Slayer? Not the South Of Heaven tour?

Sure I've mentioned to you before that I toured with MDB, crashed the bloody van in Leipzig.

As for SYL, great band, but I couldn't cope with their constant moaning, only tour I've ever walked off, its a long way from Lyon to Huddersfield when you've borrowed a van from Dortmund!

gazza285 - 21/6/09 at 01:23 AM

I remember Rick, he had fast feet, but his left foot was weak, used to be difficult to get the left kick as good as the right, only did FOH for them a few times, but I remember that.

Long time ago now, wish I was still touring sometimes. Wish I was playing in a band myself as well again, anybody need an egotistical guitarist?

UncleFista - 22/6/09 at 02:46 PM

Yeah, south of heaven tour, in 87-88 ?

Hehe, never met SYL, actually I've drunk with Gene the drummer, he seemed like a sound bloke.

I remember the stories told about the crash, didn't you finish off the tour in a transit and a Nova or summat ?

I went to school with a couple of members of MDB, but Rick's my mate, we half built our car in his garage.
It annoys me that he doesn't drum pro anymore, if I was that good at something I'd do it 'til I died.

It certainly is a long time ago, I worked with 'em early on, mainly in the UK. When the tours got longer I mainly did driving around to press/vid shoots/studio etc.

All these stories I can't tell me kids

*Every* band needs an egotistical guitarist

coozer - 22/6/09 at 02:53 PM

Got another one for ya.

STEEL PANTHER

Loved that album.
Saw them play a dinky little gig in Brighton years ago, was the best gig i've ever been to!
You could get up on stage for a bit of crowd diving, the works
My mate threw the lead singer of the support group off the stage after everyone started booing them (he was being a grade a cock) and got the biggets cheer of the night

bigpig - 22/6/09 at 07:41 PM

Sepultura - Arise & Chaos AD
Pretty much anything by My Dying Bride
Nailbomb's first album (forgot the name)

flak monkey - 24/6/09 at 06:23 PM

Gamma Ray - New World Order

Staple balls - 24/6/09 at 06:55 PM

Not easy to pick albums, but a bit of Ministry always works well.

KMFDM can't hurt either.

I never go round to buying Beneath the Remains. Heard it lots years ago though. I'll have to get that.

As also mentioned, Ministry (A Mind is a terrible thing to taste is probably my favourite)

Benzine - 30/6/09 at 08:41 AM

This is an awesome black metal song (don't let the production put you off, it's meant to sound like that )
Ulver - Hymne I

This is the same band 4 years later... quite a contrast (also an awesome song)

JoelP - 30/6/09 at 09:24 PM

well bugger me thats some change in 4 years. Prefer the first i think but they are so different you cant really compare them. 'They' say Amorphis did the same but ive not heard later stuff really, flicked through some on youtube but nowt caught my ear. Ive linked to this early vid before but its still awesome

Disturbed - 10,000 Fists

Bit mod for me, but a good album anyway

morcus - 22/9/09 at 08:46 AM

Sergeant Pepper's or any of the later Beatles Albums, Dire Straits- Brothers in Arms, Any thing by the Quo or the Mac.

I didn't see any mention of Hendricks yet, possibly the greatest Guitarist of the last century.
