I really hope they go through with it. Cut Max and Bernie right out of it - for too long those two have milked F1 for all its worth. Bernie's cut
especially is disgusting - multi-billionaire already and continues to take more than all the teams combined despite the so called recesion thats lead
to the shouts for cost cutting.
Unfortunately I think they have announced this early in an attempt to keep F1 as is and force Mad Max to back down

The eight members of the Formula One Teams’ Association have announced they will split from Formula 1 and form their own breakaway series at the end
of the season.
Following weeks of talks with the FIA aimed at breaking the deadlock over the row over the 2010 budget cap and governance of the sport, FOTA issued a
statement on Thursday night – on behalf of Ferrari, McLaren, BMW, Renault, Brawn, Toyota and both Red Bull teams – saying they had grown tired of the
governing body’s demands and had been left with “no alternative” than to start preparing for a new championship.
The historic decision comes ahead of Friday’s deadline when the teams’ alliance were told to drop their conditions for entering the 2010 season or
risk being excluded from next season’s grid.
Blaming both the governingy body and F1's commerical supremo Bernie Ecclestone for trying to divide the group, the teams' body says it has
strived to strike a compromise deal to secure the sport's future but said it was no longer willing to "compromise on the fundamental values
of the sport".
The FOTA statement said: "The FIA and the commercial rights holder have campaigned to divide FOTA.
"The wishes of the majority of the teams are ignored. Furthermore, tens of millions of dollars have been withheld from many teams by the
commercial rights holder, going back as far as 2006. Despite this and the uncompromising environment, FOTA has genuinely sought compromise.
“It has become clear however, that the teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their
original conditional entries to the 2010 World Championship.
“These teams therefore have no alternative other than to commence the preparation for a new Championship which reflects the values of its participants
and partners.
“This series will have transparent governance, one set of regulations, encourage more entrants and listen to the wishes of the fans, including
offering lower prices for spectators worldwide, partners and other important stakeholders.

Bernie and Mad Max must be getting a sense of Deja Vu...
I'm not especially a Williams fan, but I hope they see the light and join the breakaway series.
Whether or not they can is probably a legal matter now though...
Good on FOTA though, hope they bring back Silverstone, because I am sure Donington will not be ready.
I read on PH that Force India will most likely be joining FOTAs side again.
I just can't see how it will work.
All the broadcasters are going to be contracted to FOM.
And much as I like to see them standing up to the Dwarf and the Nazi are FOTA's proposals actually any better?
I see compromise ahead. The teams will go back to F1 but with an increased cap for 2010 and less rule changes.
One good thing about a breakaway series would be it'll mean Silverstone will still get the races!

The Nazi has already announced his compromise solution but i get the feeling it came too late for FOTA. I'd love to see them shut Max and Bernie
out by going for this breakaway series but get the feeling today will see lots of backing down by Max (just mostly not in public).
Max or Gordon Brown - I cant deside who i detest the most!! Both seem power-crazed and will only leave office kicking and screaming against it.

Destroyed one good series(CART) to produce two weak one's,then take ten years to sort it out again.

if force india and williams do move over to join the breakaway, it'll be all the F1 teams, i'd guess the same rules as current, all they need is to get the circuts onboard, and it's just the same F1 with no max or berni!

I feel equally sure that all the TV companies and sponsors will have contracts that will allow them to bail out of Bernie's F1 should all the teams leave. It seems that Bernie is nothing more than a bully who will threaten to sue everyone if they dont play his game. I'd love to see him try to take on the combined might of Fiat, Mercedes, BMW et al, plus all the sponsors.

in the days leading up to a GP. max and bernie show at its best, if there is no controversy then make some. don't you think it was a big
coincidence the deadline was friday, why not Monday next week or a bland midweek day away from a gp like the council hearings are?

like has been said in this thread earlier the breakaway teams have no tv deal, no circuits, no regs, no infrastructure like the circus that is F1. no
marshalls, no medical. remember most of their own sponsors will not be happy cos they will have signed up to "F1".

It's like Bernie threatening to take the F1 away from Silverstone each year only for Brands Hatch management to run it from Silverstone!

I think the circuits will be the big problem as I'd expect Bernie and Max to have lots of legal stuff preventing the circuits signing up with any competitive series.

All the teams have to do is threaten to turn up on the grid with uncompetitive cars, inexperienced drivers, and so on. They'll fulfil their contract, probably not qualify for a single race, and F1 will collapse into a farce.
Why doesn't everyone (TV,mass sponsers etc etc) get behind the A1 GP series. Its all flag waving and a pretty much a level playing field (Except
drivers).It'll bring Berine and Max down a few notches.Hit them where it hurts,The wallet...Vote with your feet.
Theres a few countries which miss out on high performance F1/A1 sytle racing because of the "demands" of Brenie and Max
