Stainless brake hose upgrade
speedyxjs - 27/6/09 at 04:35 PM

I want to upgrade the brake pipe on the tintop next weekend, partly so i can use the existing ones on the locost and also because i am going on a tour in august which is going to involve a lot of mountain roads.
Where si the best place to get stainless braided brake hoses from for a 97 jag xj6?

If you can tell me what end fittings you have & give me lengths I can make them for you no problem, unfortunately i don't have a listing for spec of them.

Regards Russ

Cheers russ. Is there any way of finding out without taking them off though?

The standard OEM rubber covered hoses are much more suitable for a normal road car ---- really zero benefits from braided hoses and a number of disadvantages -- for example you can't clamp the brakes hose and they aren't fit and forget.

True, you can't clamp them, but not true there are zero benefits - hi end (inc Jag) fit braided as standard oem despite the cost.

If you take a careful look at the unions on the end of the existing hoses & the copper/steel pipes going into them, also at the caliper ends you can usually see if they are the standard M10 size, in which case tey will be M10 x 1.0 or if they are something larger (unusual except on Yanks), you should also be able to see what is female/male or a banjo fitting, I would be able to work out what will be convex/concave etc.

I run them on both my tintops and would argue they feel a lot better, dont need replaced as often and arent that much more than a set of rubber ones.

I hate the practice of clamping lined reinforced composit hoses with a passion tbh.

There speaks a man who has never driven a car with braided hoses.

The difference is immense, all the spongyness is gone, total feel and control - like having ABS in your toes
