Can you help with this ?

Fozzie - 16/7/09 at 06:39 PM

Thanks Jon

Yes....in the attempt to keep spammers/bots away, the sign ups have been tightened, and it has been the case that a few are having problems.......I shall try and get it sorted ASAP.

its a shame people are having trouble, i only have a hotmail email address and if i could get registered with that i just wouldnt bother.

Fozzie - 16/7/09 at 07:11 PM

Joel, to keep it in context, since the new sign up which has been in place since quite early this year, there are only 2 people that I know who have had trouble, the second being the guy on PH.........

If people cannot sign up, they can still browse the site, click on member list, staff, and contact either ChrisW or myself, so I have no reason to think that there have been many more that we do not know about.....

Nope.......there have been more since then, but I/we have fended them off....

With all of the auto-bots of recent times, we were getting hundreds of bogus sign ups each day/night......and someone has to get rid of them........or you will be plagued with ads for all sorts...

Most sites have a far more complex/detailed sign up proceedure, and they also have the odd 'blips'.........

Put it this way.....admins are damned if they do sommat about it, and damned if they don't......we cannot please all of the people all of the time.....but I do me best!

i noticed, looking through the members list, how many numbers are skipped and realised they must all be for deleted registrations. A shocking number.

On a similar theme my house phone has rung 3 times today and every one was a recorded message selling crap. These bastards are undermining the human race, i really feeling they should be hung. How do they dare disturb so many people so freely?

Fozzie - 16/7/09 at 08:46 PM

Just been working with ChrisW on this....all is well now...

Fozzie

Joel, yes.....and it does take a long time to get rid of them all .... you are right, these intrusions into our lives are diabolical ....

Agree, i entered an online competition at my wifes request a month ago and now my inbox has went from 4 or 5 emails a day to 15 and my phone is red hot. 1 company has sent me 3 letters telling me i have won £3750 I phoned them after the 3rd letter telling them to post it out only to be told i had to join there club at £140 a year and would receive the money as money of vouchers, they stopped hastling me once i told them i was a corporate fraud lawyer.

ive also received another message from 61010 which i know from the last one will cost £1.50, for unsolicited saucy texts. Now what sad fool would pay for these when the internet is drowning under free porn? I know, the fool who never asked to be sent them and doesnt have time to jump through hoops to stop them...

Fozzie - 17/7/09 at 07:53 PM

Oh dear Joel .... is there not a way to block unwanted texts/messages on mobiles?

I rarely use a mobile, so I don't know..but my land line is ex-directory and I have TPS .... is there nowt for mobiles?

Fozzie

Ninehigh - 17/7/09 at 10:05 PM

The TPS works for mobiles too

Kept getting calls off this life insurance thing, I kept doing my usual trick of telling them to hang on a sec while I get him and leaving it to one side, until swmbo told them I had died a few weeks ago and wishes they'd have called sooner
