I'd only just explained to my other half about the terrible freak accident involving Henry Surtees while we were watching the qualifying and a minute later this incident unfolds live before us!

Wishing the chap all the best.

G

I wish him a speedy recovery too.

I'll be honest and say that I never used to like Massa all that much and wondered why on earth he got a drive at Ferrari but these last couple of years he has worked bloody hard for the team (unlike his team mate...) and has certainly earned my respect. I think he is a very amiable guy and, dare I say it, I think he deserved to win the championship last year.

Get well soon Felipe!

:-)

Let me explain...

I'm not a big Hamilton fan (yet) to be honest as I think he got too much too soon without really earning it. Felipe, Kimi, Fernando and pretty much everyone in F1 has had to fight for year after year to progress from the smaller teams to a team with winning potential and I think that journey matures the driver beyond just raw driving talent.

Almost every driver on the grid "could" win the championship in the right car but part of being a champion, in my mind anyway, should be the ability to develop a car and lead a team to victory. This is a team sport and a driver should earn his position within that team as their leader.

For the above reasons, my favourite drivers are Coulthard and Alonso. Okay I'm scottish so DC is a fellow countryman but he is also a very capable team player and is fiercely loyal to his team. He worked bloody hard as a driver both on his fitness and technical skills and I believe he was a joy to work with. Alonso is perhaps not so much of a joy to work with but his charisma and leadership are unmatched on the grid today and would have given Schumi a run for his money. He is also incredibly consistent which is great when developing a car as you can tell whether each and every change to the car was positive or negative. You also have to admire his passion for getting the best result possible on the day as witnessed by his performance in Bahrain where he lost 5.5Kg of body weight in water when his drinks bottle failed and still got a decent finish shortly before collapsing due to dehydration!

Felipe for me is the current Ferrari team leader as Kimi has clearly lost interest, and I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye when I saw how heart-broken he was when he got out of his car in Brazil last year having been denied the championship by the smallest of margins and after having crossed the line as the winner after a faultless race in front of his home crowd.

Lewis will benefit from his experience this year and will perhaps realise how lucky he has been in his career so far. That experience will develop the character that I feel he is currently lacking and after some hard work, if he can repeat his championship win in years to come then he too may earn my respect as a true champion. Until then my support will go to Alonso to win a third WC. I should also add that I am delighted at Jenson's performance this year and I feel that he has earned the opportunity to win a WC. I think he has matured brilliantly in recent years (unlike Rubens who appears to have de-matured into a cry baby...)

Let's hope all the drivers have a good (and safe) race today - I think that Brawn should withdraw from the race until the reasons for the spring coming loose are fully explained and as a mark of respect for Felipe.

Cheers,
Craig.
