Ive spent a good hour and a half taking snow off my flat roof on the deck / carport.
It was bowing under the weight.....so I have put some props under it.
We have had snow but the build up is simply staggering 14 to 16" and a ice layer below
First time Ice encountered this problem.....
how much does a snow blanket 5 m x 5m by 14" deep weigh?
Uncompacted snow is around 160 kg/m^3.
5*5*0.36 = 9 m^3
9*160 = 1.4 tonnes.
dont know , but i think you can find that calculation in the building regs online .

I love this time of year ,all this repair work coming my way. Gutters, roof and window repairs it makes up for all the days sitting in the house watching the snow!!!! Will be given 20% discount to all Locost members
Remember that ice floats, so it must weigh less. If the ice melts and turns to water 'then' you have a problem...

The snow on my conservatory roof is 10" thick, hopefully the roof wont take much more and i'll have an excuse to get it replaced. Although my insurance probably doesn't cover it.

eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Friend had a suspended carport off the side of his bungalow. It has collapsed under the weight of snow onto the car and pulled the outer gable end brickwork down with it. Looks like the entire gable end will need to be rebuilt. .
gutter
Just had my wallhead mounted ogee guttering taken off by an avalanche
There was about a foot of snow on the roof and was starting to force the guttering away from the wall.
I was up a ladder on the left hand side when the whole of the snow on the slope decided to head south!!
Luckily the left side held.
I have now cleared the top of the conservatory as it looked like it was starting to buckle as well.

The Ogee gutter seems to have survived the fall.
Just a small nibble out of one of the joining flanges.
I think I should be able to weld the bit back on (cast aluminium).
hmm, why don't i ever seem to get real deep snow here. for the past couple of years, the whole country has stopped for snow, like a foot deep etc, 2", thats all we've had here!
take all the insulation out of your loft, that will soon get rid of the snow!
