HTC Desire Z

Haven't got one, but have got a Desire HD and come from a Touch Pro 2 (which is a similar formfactor to the Z but windows instead of android).

Have to say I was tempted by the Z, but the more memory and faster cpu on the desire hd swung me away from a keyboard, and to be honest I don't miss it - the onboard keyboard is perfectly acceptable, and on the desire hd it's lovely (if you don't mind having the equivalent of a plasma tv in your pocket!)

Quite bad actually, I think mainly because I use GMail and it's an always-on network connection - constantly checking for WiFi too. It's odd though, sometimes it'll quite happily do 24 hours, sometimes it'll die during the day, almost as if there's been a rogue process eating the battery.

But I've now installed an app called Juice Defender which has improved the situation a lot (around double). It manages things like disables syncing and only enables it periodically (e.g. every hour or whatever), and turns off wifi and only checks periodically. It also "learns" where your common wifi hotspots are, so it'll turn it on when at home or work, and off at other times to save power. That does seem to help quite a lot. Though it can't fix a maraton Angry Birds sesh

At the end of the day though, you should plan to be charging most smartphones these days every night.

i've seen 2 desire Zs in phone shops with broken links in the mechanisms. these are only dummy phones, but perhaps highlights a significant potential weak point in the design.

i've just got a desire and the battery life is pretty terrible! i managed to get 36 hours out of it yesterday though my n85 used to last about 4 or 5 days, but it wasn't nearly as useful as i find the desire.
