Are Royal Mail Prices Creeping Up?

Went to send an item that weighed 1.9kg and need insurance to the value of £100. The cheapest option tuned out to be ParcelForce 48 at £11

WTF! That's just ridiculous!

Yep, definitly are. Anything above envelope size now goes through interparcel, usually UPS. Never had a single issue, I'm even on first name terms with the Ups man

prices have been going up every year for at least the last 4 years, at the start of the financial year. i'm looking at buying stamps in bulk next spring before it goes up again. standard first class recorded is insured to 10 x first class stamp value, so £41 at the mo.

tbh, i tend to ignore them when they ask what the value of the parcel is, but thats the risk you take.

I sent a £200 2kg parcel last week special delivery (guaranteed delivery by 1pm), insured for up to £500 for £9.05.

Pretty sure standard parcels was cheaper but I needed it there tout de suite.

I think you need to have a word with your postmaster, or consult the royal mail website.

I might well have been ripped off as I didn't go to my usual PO. It was the larger one in Haddington that I went to on this occasion and I've previously suspected that they start with the most expensive option and then work there way down only when asked!

I shall be checking online before I go next time!

Just checked and yup, I could have had the better service of Special Delivery for a couple of quid less!

I'm now pretty sure that the same flippin teller has done this to me a few times before as I now remember being surprised with the prices she offered me on a few occasions! Do they get a commission or a ticked-box for selling services AND adding an enhanced compensation fee!?

I think they have cut postal delivies too. We only get mail every 2 days.
