Can anyone explain what the 'IP profile for your line is 500Kbps' part of this download speed report means? It was referred to as
'configured download throughput speed for this service is 500 k' on the previous page of the report.
Cheers!

It means your ISP has decided that you will connect at 500Kb/s and that's it.
They say it's based on extensive line testing, yadah yadah. Reliability etc.
They did it with me before. I think they use it to restrict bandwidth.
I phoned them up and convinced them to put it back to where it was, after which it was fine and has been so ever since.
Ah right, so I could get higher, or does the fact that the test showed I was only getting 421Kbps make it all rather pointless asking for them
to do something about it???
Cheers.
It's always worth a phone call to try it at a higher speed.
I think they base it on the theoretical max of your line.
My theoretical max is much lower than what the line can actually acheive.
I'm told our exchange will be upgrade to fibre to the cabinet within 12 months.
Can't come soon enough.
Cheers Zil!
my last router started playing up and dropped the connection a lot. this caused my IP profile to drop very low and it always took quite a while to get
back upto where it should of been. i usually get the max for a 8mb connection. rebooting the router a lot can also cause this as well.
new router fixed it.
when i rang up about it they said it was automatic dropping of the profile due to an unstable connection and would go back up after a few days of
constant connection which it always did.
profiles can get stuck so if it used to be higher and has been like that for a few days its worth giving them a ring
