Concorde Rolls-Royce Olympus 593-610 Turbojet Engine with Reheat | eBay

Don't understand why anyone would pay this much for something that they aren't allowed to use

Wonder what that costs to put on the Bay?

Confused but excited. - 5/12/11 at 11:19 PM

Who says that you can't use it?
They are used extensively for powering generators, once they have done their allowable hours in a plane.

Haha... log book and accompanying tech books extra....... It is CCCRAAAZYY! how much people pay for concorde memorabilia! You see people a the airshows buying luggage compartment handles, door screws etc from concorde for mental money..... I dont get it...

Edit to say... it means you cant use it in a plane... would never get certification.... I cant imagine how much fuel an antique engine like that would burn...even on a static display!

And one other thing... you could buy several brand new engines from Rolls for that money these days! (granted, small helicopter engines... but even so...)

It says static display only, which implies to me that you cannot run it.

That's a shame - it would look lovely on your kitchen table.

jossey - 6/12/11 at 10:36 AM

was just thinking how much spare cash you would need to buy that for a garage storage item?

BenB - 6/12/11 at 12:27 PM

Surely if I buy it, it's mine. I can do with it whatever I want? If I want to melt it down into man-jewellery then that's my right? Very strange.

"British Airways restriction of use, it must only be used for static display, your written acceptance of this is a requirement of sale."

In order to buy it you have to sign something saying you won't strap it to the roof of your car and light it up. Whether that is a legally binding contract with penalty clauses or as useful as a software EULA is up to a court to decide.

I would suggest that if you strapped it to the roof or your car, legal issues would be the least of your worries.

Say you resell it to someone else who hasn't signed this documents.

I am sure you could do whatever you wanted with it.

MakeEverything - 8/12/11 at 09:08 PM

PMSL, have you seen the guys seller history of pens, eye lift gel and Concorde models?

Xtreme Kermit - 8/12/11 at 09:57 PM

Obvious progression

PSpirine - 8/12/11 at 10:32 PM

What I can't figure out..

It sounds like it's just a bloke (or rather, an individual) selling it. Not a business or organisation, but just some guy.

WHY THE HELL WOULD HE HAVE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?! Even if he's trying to make a profit on it, one would hazard a guess that he still bought it for not far off the asking price - I doubt it was ever given away as scrap...

I mean I know there's lots of us tat collectors on locostbuilders, but this makes even scootz purchases look sensible...

Surprised ebay isn't advertising this on the front page though... over £100,000 in final value fees

Xtreme Kermit - 8/12/11 at 10:35 PM

If we could get scootz to buy it, we could buy it off him in a months time for just half a mill...

It would probably be in bits by then though, with half of it grafted to the trike!
