Looking for some good british series to watch - preferably amusing and light entertainment - tired of the Yank programs we have to put up with in
SA.

Green wing is hilarious!!! Its an acquired humour but I like it!
"not going out" is worth a wry smile.
Ivan, I remember in the early 80's when I lived in J'burg, Knight rider and Dallas were very popular in SA.
IMO British TV is not that good
best to watch youtube....

I have recently discovered a program here in SA called Mad Scientist on DSTV. It's an Yank garage inventor guy who goes round finding other
garage inventors and gets to know what they are into (rocket power, microlights etc) and sets them a challange to build something in 2 days with his
help. he's very enthusistic in an "American" way but it very entertaining. Some of the guys he meets are crazy clever and some of the
outcomes make good TV. The water power jet pack was good one.
It might be from the USA but it's one of the good ones.

Try Mrs Brown's Boys.
It reminds me a little of Bottom and The young ones.
Its modern, filmed on a live set and is very light humour. It has the dirty slap stick humour of early 90s comedy to so not for younger eyes.
Blackadder... I know every gag off by heart, but I still laugh at the punchlines!
Do You Know What It Feels Like to Have The Wind Rushing Through Your Hair
Linky...
Misfits
Personally I think Benidorm is one of the best things on TV at the moment.
men behaving badly?
outnumbered is amusing...
Shameless, Misfits, Derren Brown, Brass Eye, Comic Strip Presents, Black Books, Father Ted, The Inbetweeners, Noel Fieldings Luxury Comedy, Siren,
Spaced, Green Wing, Bo' Selecta, and that's just from Channel Four!!
Absolutely Fabulous, League of Gentlemen, Fresh Meat, Live at the Apollo, QI, The Royle Family, Stand up of the Week, Russell Howards Good News,
Twenty Twelve, The Thick of It, Watson and Oliver
That should keep you going ...... I need to get out more

Thanks all - lots to look into -
- most of those we have never heard of - will give them a gander.
Must admit - Black Adder and Allo Allo were amongst our favourites.
The Missus won't watch anything violent so we are very limited for our 1.5 hours of viewing every night, and we must be one of the few middle
class families in SA who don't have DSTV.

Just discovered Doc Martin, now catching up on ITV3, Martin Clunes is ace, acting is superb and very funny.

Don't believe it Ivan. We don't have it either and more and more people are thinking its not worth the R650 per month.
I stopped it once the kids left home. Who's got time to watch anyway, we've got cars to build!
Cheers

'Life on Mars' best thing on british TV I can remember.
Enjoyed 'Sherlock' too
Got to 2nd much of what Jasper has said.
Would like to had to his list Peep Show which is very good IMO.
If you want to go back a bit then my girlfriend and I recently borrowed the entire Porridge set. That is utterly brilliant and has made me appreciate
quite how good Ronnie Barker really was!
Cheers,
James
Doc Martin is good.
