I'm gutted to say the least.
One of my favourite DJs on both Radio 1 and Radio 4. Seemed a genuinely nice guy and was always good to hear his massively varied range of music.

i remember him on the radio when i was a little kid. always played music I didnt like (then) late in the evening. But he was a part of our lives -
that very distinctive voice.
There were so many other bands that he brought to the fore that otherwise wouldnt have been heard.
I remember that his favourite song was by the undetones - teenage kicks.
one of those occurences that make you feel old....

He was a man ahead of his time, always introducing new stuff. A great loss to radio.
He was my main amusement when my wife went shopping on Saturday morning, as I sat in my car in the supermarket car-park...
shame...

I'll miss the man - I've been listening to him on and off for over 30 years

His choice of music never did anything for me but his voice is unmistakable
Heard this on the radio bit earlier, very very sad day. He was truely loved by everyone.
Even Tony Blair said he was saddened by the news of his death.
the sad loss of a legend and fellow east anglian
A very sad day indeed!
I've spent many a happy evening in the garage tinkering with this and that and mainly listening to good old JP. A large proportion of my music
collection has been influenced by the challenging and varied music that he played - most of which would never have come to light without his radio
shows.
There's nobody left on Radio 1 that I will be listening to now!
