I'm travelling up to collect the force this Saturday (05:00 am) from the Lake District to Halkirk which is 400 miles north!
The majority of the journey is on the a9 and I'm hoping to arrive there around 13:30- 14:00 load up then set of back along the a9.
Is there anywhere to stop within 2-3 hours south on the a9? With parking for the trailer?
Cheers!
In Halkirk itself the Ulbster Arms I well appointed
Having towed a trailer up and down there a few times i would think you will get back to about inverness should be a prem inn there
Your best bet is down around Inverness, if you take the A96 towards Elgin about 1/4 mile off the A9 there is a travel lodge and Holiday Inn Express
virtually side by side.
Plenty parking and no need to tackle the city roads with a trailer on, its 100 miles South of Halkirk so with those roads and a trailer on it will be
the best part of a 3 hour run.
Linky
Failing that if you goto the same turn off for the A96 but turn right the Thistle Hotel is down there which is the base for the Snowmans Rally so they
are used to having race teams there in the car park.
Thistle
If you want to go a bit further South plenty place around Avimore
I've driven Caithness to Cumbria a number of times and 8-10 hours is a fair estimate but that would be without a trailer.
Have you driven the A9 north of Inverness before? It could take a while with the trailer so look at 2.5-3 hours from Inverness to Halkirk, I think
your best bet is to stay around Inverness on your way back as mentioned above.
Also just to mention there are average speed cameras between Inverness and 30 miles south of Perth

make sure you have a good hitch lock or wheel lock on the trailer and a chain round the load
Cheers chaps. Gonna be a long weekend!
It might also be worth saying that the A9 is covered by new average speed cameras all the way from Dunblane.
