You should read that article. If it's true, that's one neat piece of kit!

Steve,

Just been to Luxembourg, where I saw a fuel sell bus!

Great idea, just need to reduce price I gather.

Gonna read article now

Ho Humm. Trouble with fuel cells, is that you need to produce the hydrogen.. This normally uses electricity to turn water in to hydrogen and oxygen, so it's actually more inefficient that a petrol engine, and produces more green house gasses...

Exactly...you just move the pollution from one place to another. You could cut it by using some of the power of the engine to create an electric current to convert water to hydrogen+oxygen, thus cutting the need for refuelling quite so often.

Unless you use some alternative energy source such as wind or solar to accomplish the task... We need to look towards the future on this issue. Sooner or later there HAS to be some alternative to fossil fuels. No choice.

There is a trial of fuel cell busses at the moment in London. They hiss like crazy!

to the people who knock the fuel cells, bear in mind that by having all the pollutant emissions in one place (at the power station) it is easier to clean the emissions than it would be to have 10 million individual catalytic converters. Plus, as already said, when nuclear fuels are more prevelant, it will be a LOT less polluting overall.

There is a wee bit in Focus magazine about his bike. They mention that they are testing out a small plant for producing hydrogen cleanly that can fit in the corner of your garage, giving you your own re-fuelling point.

Cant remember the details though.
