I don't wish to offend anyone here but you have to ask WHY?!

Peteff - 19/1/06 at 09:29 AM

It looks like it's made of flat boards and the back end definitely doesn't look Formula 1. Personally I don't like it but it's a novelty. A bit of time on the bodywork would have been a big improvement.

k33ts - 19/1/06 at 09:29 AM

howd it get through sva with thay front end

David Jenkins - 19/1/06 at 09:32 AM

Why not? It looks like a big laugh, and is probably heaps of fun to drive (presuming he's done a reasonable job of the suspension). It's not beautiful, but what the hell - he's enjoying himself.

I remember seeing a street-legal converted Formula Ford car for sale at a kit car show a few years ago - a true single-seater!

donut - 19/1/06 at 09:44 AM

Great for a track day car but on the road i would look and feel a complete pratt! (even more than usual!! )

Sorry, thumbs down for me.

DarrenW - 19/1/06 at 09:48 AM

Read about that in recent mag. Very interesting but not my cup of tea. Do you think the Corsa boys will want to have a go?????

zxrlocost - 19/1/06 at 09:48 AM

TAKE NOTE NEARLY EVERY OTHER KIT CAR COMPANY

the chap who designed this car will sell loads of kits if he goes for it and its generally a good kit..

WHY because he lives in 2006 his website is very good simple effective it loads straight away no LOADING LOADING crap crap blah blah!! theres no this website is under construction he goes into detail in the site, theres good pics you click on links and they work wallah simple !!

he gets the thumbs up from me but its not the kind of car Id be interested in

Syd Bridge - 19/1/06 at 09:55 AM

Anyone else think that the headlights are a little bit lowish to pass SVA ??? And are the lights themselves legal?

Syd.

David Jenkins - 19/1/06 at 09:56 AM

There was a ready-made car a while ago (called a 'Rocket'?) that was a similar format (a bit more old-fashioned) but that was hugely expensive, and never really took off.
This bloke might sell a few if the price is sensible enough that it could be classified as a plaything. Not being sarcastic - my Locost's referred to as the 'toy car' in my house! If it got too expensive then people wouldn't give it a second glance.
As Chris has said - it's not for me either - but I'd bet there's quite a few who'd have a go...

I'm not into replicas (of any sort), even less so with this one, but you've got to give the guy credit for having the courage to actually put this on the road. It must have been an SVA nightmare!

If it's the one in the mag the lights were changed after SVA...

Agree with the website comment, seems manufacturers often go for the 'rarely updated knocked up over a couple of late nights' look or the '20minute load time flash nightmare things moving about can't find any real information and only works properly on internet explorer' style.

pajsh - 19/1/06 at 10:24 AM

I go with Donut. I'd feel a complete pratt on the road so not for me.

I can only see a use as a track car.

Does make a mockery of SVA though. More like this and they will have to clamp down on after test alterations.

cossey - 19/1/06 at 10:32 AM

it was in the metro a couple of days ago and mentioned £15k.

graememk - 19/1/06 at 10:51 AM

ar5e end is a big let down.

but i must admit he's done a much better job than i could of done.

smart51 - 19/1/06 at 11:03 AM

A few years ago a guy in japan bought some end of season F1 cars to make road legal. He had to drash test 2 body shells to be alowed to drive the third car on the road. In the end he had a true F1 car with mud guards and lights

DaveFJ - 19/1/06 at 12:28 PM

I say good luck to the guy....

It's a specialist taste - but then so is a Seven!

seems to be well thought out and kinda fun. twin engines and loads of power - reckon it would be fun on the track.

Good website too.

mak - 19/1/06 at 12:40 PM

Would be unbelievably fun for the first two days (assuming the power unit is the part).
But novelty would wear off fast.
Half the population would believe it is a real F1 car thats escaped onto the road, and half would just think "what the hell".

Be a great promo tool, much more effective than those signs on trailers.

Not amazing, but i'm impressed.

mmmmmmm, could be!!! I was meaning i could just see the Corsa boys ineir 1.4 bass thumping chariots trying to race it. If they won they would achieve super status at the next boys brigade meet. brum brum.

Liam - 19/1/06 at 03:07 PM

OK - lots of people giving big respect for doing something like that etc etc, and I agree totally, but... would anyone here, especially those full of praise for it, actually be seen dead in it on the road? I wouldn't, and I think that's a big problem he will have. An obviously fake F1 car is extreeeeemly tacky imho.

Wonder what the unique drive system is, by the way? Surely not an engine per wheel, so what? Hard to see in the pics...

Liam

David Jenkins - 19/1/06 at 03:10 PM

Fair point... I wouldn't mind a chance for a quick drive around, but I wouldn't pay money to own one.

2 Laggy bands!

Liam - 19/1/06 at 03:18 PM

And another thing...

Weren't there another F1 style kit car in the works a while ago? A yellow one that seated 2 side-by-side? Sure it must have been on here. What happened to that?

Liam

Not when his profile says he's building an Aeon GT2.

mangogrooveworkshop - 19/1/06 at 04:46 PM

I like the idea of what he has done. We are not all sheep yet driving round in sat controlled tintops........... Its something differant and if its not to your taste buy a corsa.... or some bland wagon in tea biscuit brown so you dont stand out. Rant over

Winston Todge - 19/1/06 at 05:13 PM

The guy that owns that particular car with twin ZX10 motors is a regular(ish) on this forum.

Hopefully he'll give a good insite into its on road manners! And how cool/silly he feels driving it!?

Peteff - 19/1/06 at 05:16 PM

Or build something else which is what we've done or are doing. We're all entitled to our opinions, what's to rant about ?.

andyps - 19/1/06 at 05:26 PM

Does this car put to rest the question about two engines and SVA/road legality?

[Edited on 19/1/06 by andyps]

zilspeed - 19/1/06 at 06:44 PM

I like it..................................

But I've kind of given up on the idea of road use nowadays - it's too scary.
I fonly they made single seaters to suit fat b'stards.

Knew I had a picture somewhere...
...I wonder what it's called on the DVLA's computer?

It was a genuine Formula Ford race car that got converted for the road, MOT'd and everything...

russbost - 19/1/06 at 10:34 PM

Well it's a little late chaps & I'm off to bed with a good (bad) woman, however I'm really interested to see the comments both good & bad (on the car not the woman). To answer a few comments - first try reading the website then you'd know that the lights were different for SVA, not a lot else has changed & if you can't see how it would get thro' SVA then you don't understand the regs.
Second a prize for any Corsa boy that ever gets to look at anything other than the rear end (which is ugly, but if anyone knows a way of slimming 2 1000cc bike engines let me know), the production version will be prettier (but be a tad slower).
Re the looks of the car if you think F1 is pretty it's pretty if you think F1 is ugly, it's ugly!
It was on BBC tv this week, in the Daily Express & The Metro which I think is more than most builders/owners can claim.
I absolutely love driving it, watching peoples faces as their jaw hits their chest is great - I can now lipread "what the f**k" at around 300 yards.
Please keep the feedback coming, I will answer any questions willingly. I reckon you could be on the road for around 7K & it's as practical as any seven without weathergear.

jambojeef - 19/1/06 at 10:57 PM

Im curious to know what its actually like to drive Ross?

I guess styling is especially subjective when it comes to cars (and girls) but what I guess everyone is looking for in a high power/weight ratio car like yours and the ones we're building is handling and the driving experience so - spill the beans!

I read the magazine article and it didnt really say! How does the one engine per rear wheel make it behave like an LSD as you say in the mag and how is it actually connected?! Id have thought that cornering hard you could spin the inside wheel pretty easily if each engine is truly independant of the other....?

Geoff

russbost - 20/1/06 at 07:43 AM

Hi Geoff
It drives just like a single seater race car , but with less sticky tyres & more compliant suspension. Re the drive system, it is simply chain driven individually to each side from each engine, In the dry I've never had any significant wheelspin & it's very hard to unstick, when it does breakaway, the front drifts first followed almost immediately by the rear in a four wheel drift easily controlled on the throttle - makes it look like I can drive! You obviously can unstick the back end with too much power in the wet, but even that is good because one wheel usually breaks b4 the other giving you a warning of climbing rpm that you are close to the limit. Russ

Not very then
Like anything that is a bit out of the norm they always take some getting used to. The 7 is basically a trillion years old now so just about accepted.

Ref the Corsa boys - id love to see when have a go and then get truly anialated.

Are you the man behind the car? Wether any one loves it or hates it (its one of those with nowt in between) everyone will admire you for doing it. It doesnt surprise me that you will get huge media interest - milk it for all its worth.

I for one wish you every success.

russbost - 20/1/06 at 11:53 AM

No not very, but if you take the airbox off you can get the shopping in ................
The performance is quite ridiculous for the road at least in the area in which I live, I can't think of too many cars that do 0-60 in less than 3.5 secs (most front engined rear drive can't get enough grip for a start).
Yes I'm the man behind it - or should that be the nut behind the wheel.

According to the RAC site there is "No descriptive data is held by DVLA" for the registration it has on it.

Edit to add: this relates to the formula ford single seater.

[Edited on 21/1/06 by andyps]

russbost - 20/1/06 at 04:56 PM

The DVLA have it as "Furore Kit" - interesting considering that no such thing existed when it was registered.
Re the comment about "single seaters for fat ba***rds" - I am intending that the production version should be good for anyone up to around 18 stone.

liam.mccaffrey - 20/1/06 at 04:59 PM

damn counts me out then, i'd have to lose 13% of my body weight

akumabito - 20/1/06 at 05:49 PM

Too expensive!

There should be more cars for poor people (me).

russbost - 21/1/06 at 02:08 PM

There are, they are called Lada's!
