Hi Folks

I was wondering if anybody has any experience of the above car. My mate has just fitted new pads on to his Rover 25 and when he went to drive it there was no brake pedal. He has bleed the brakes a couple of time just to make sure there is no air trapped.

He thought he may have damaged the master cylinder so he changed that, slightly better now, but you still have to pump the brake pedal once before there is any brake pressure.

Also can anybody explain brake test results to me i.e. brake efficiency 74%, wheel locked 278kg.

Did he open the nipple when fitting the pads or push the fluid back to the master cylinder ? also has the car got ABS.

Brakes probably just need bled properly when bleeding brakes it must be done slowly and the pedal must be held down when closing the nipples.

Brake efficieny figures are about right for a roller test. based on those figures On the road the car should pull about 0.9g inn a emmergency stop.

Not sure whether he undid the bleed nipple or simply pushed the fluid back. What difference does it make?

I had just written the procedure below when I remembered on Rovers when fitting pads it is easy to cause a slow fluid leak at the brake pipe banjo union on the caliper --- if that dosen't work follow the following procedure.

(1) Remove one brake pad
(2) Replace caliper
(3) Steadily pump piston out using slow strokes especially on the return stroke.
(4) Hold pedal down on last stroke.
(5) Clamp brakes hose using nip clamp or padded mole grips.
(6) Release pedal slowly
(7) With brake hose still clamped open bleed nipple 1 to 1.5 turn and attach bleed tube.
(8) Push piston back forcing fluid out of the bleed nipple.
(9) Close niple while fluid is still flowing.
(10) Remove clamp
(11) Refit pad
(12 Pump pedal; slowly until pad makes contack with disc
Repeat for each front wheel.

At the rear just use single shot bleeding
(1) open nipple
(2) pump pedal down and hold down
(3) Close nipple
(4) allow pedal to come up slowly.
Repeat 3 times for each rear wheel.
