Locost FAQ - Wiki
andyharding - 9/7/06 at 02:27 PM

It seems that people generally agree a Wiki is the way to compile a FAQ so I've registered the domain CARBUILDERS.INFO.

I'll get the software setup in the next few days and then we'll be ready to start entering the info into the site.

Can I have a show of hands from people willing to make an initial contribution to try and get things off the ground? Just mention what topic(s) you want to cover and I'll contact you when we're ready.

I'll start by making a start on Zetec Starter Motors and Bike Carbs.

For reference:-

"A wiki is a type of website that allows users to add, remove, or otherwise edit and change most content very quickly and easily, sometimes without the need for registration. This ease of interaction and operation makes a wiki an effective tool for collaborative writing."

I'll take on "Interior & Seating", or at least a first cut.
Let me know.

is that the deepest

I'll happily read and contribute to other peoples - being on year 6 i've got a mass of knowledge but i'm not the best person when it comes to writing stuff down or completing things !!!!!!!

OK chaps, I have the basic Wiki working on http://www.carbuilders.info/ and I've setup initial categories in a Locostbuilders style to keep things familier.

It needs some smartening up with a logo etc but at least we can start building the info up on there.

Im not experienced enough with locosts to help, but Id like to see a small Locost IDing page that has pics of the various common locosts kits. Just enough to compare the different styling, and maybe a bare chassis shot of each?
Would help the beginners to decide what car they like best.
Thanks for setting up a FAQ.

Great idea. I've added a page :-

http://www.carbuilders.info/wiki/index.php/Which_Locost_Manufacturer

Go ahead and register, then click edit and you can add some info.

i have started the BEC section. It makes you realise just how much there is to this hobby! I wrote for ages and barely covered anything!

andyharding - 11/7/06 at 08:38 PM

Looking good! If 10% of the members here contribute that much we'll never have to answer any noobie questions again

MikeR - 11/7/06 at 09:51 PM

yes we will, but hopefully we can just answer ..........

read the FAQ wiki

then we'll get "i've read the wiki but couldn't find the answer to ......" [insert question on page 1]

or we'll get,

i didn't have time to read the wiki what is the .......

hey, we've all done it!

Tell me about it, got to 6 pages of text and still got a couple of sections to complete. That is without pictures and links which is why it isn't up yet.

Will try to get something up tonight.

Cheers
Ian

Ok there is now a fairly basic section for 'interior and seats' on the wiki.

Some questions (in italics) that people who know can fill in.

Still much to do, but I'm done for the night!

rayward - 13/7/06 at 03:41 PM

added the basics of the megajolt page, have a look and let me know what you think.

The whole site is an excellent idea, and appears to be well thought out. I've been building for longer than this site has existed, and I've already learned something!
Keep it up.
Ps If I can think of anything to contribute, I will.

I'm doing a Motor Vehicle Repair course now so I can stick a few cent's worth in with regards to engine and maintenance etc.
