Had intercooler off etc, the turbo seems fine it blows a gale, changed the two "O" rings, cant see any sign of any leaks or hear them ?

Fuel ?

It runs just as well with the turbo disconnected (pipe off) as with it on, struggles too rev up too 4k though......

Fuel ?

And how do i adjust anything ?

Diesel novice your talking too here remember.

Isn't there usually a dump valve thingy that gets rid of excess pressure? If that's stuck open - well, it won't help!

I think that's ok Dave, ive had my hand over outlet of intercooler and it builds enough pressure up too push it off.

There's no throttle on a diesel, so there's nowt to dump, as it were

By the whoosh sound it certainly sounds like a blown pipe or something. Is the inlet manifold gasket ok??

Have u taken the intercooler off?? They rot through underneath..

Jon Ison - 14/8/06 at 06:48 PM

Ive not checked the inlet gasket as such and I would agree there was a defo woooooooooooosh so it points too leaky summat but.........

I have had the intercooler off, changed the 2 O rings and re fitted it, it builds up plenty of pressure and blows a gale, but like you say possible inlet gasket, would that affect the revs on a diesel ?

The same thing happened to one of our work Mundanos the other week, was diagnosed as a pipe come off the turbo. apparently took 5 minutes to fix. Unfortunately it wasn't me who fixed it, so don't know which pipe!
Same whoosh noise etc.

We had an mg montego turbo in the family that regularly blew off the intercooler pipe. It felt like i was driving my mk1 1100 scort again

It wont get the full pressure from the turbo.

Iv not known one to go but worth a look.

Does the turbo sound like its spinning up ok?? Can u hear the whooshing all the time when revved?

Could you enquire for me ?
Ta.

Jon, just had a word with our garage bods, they said it could be any one of the pipes, they didn't log it! It had split though rather than blown off. It took a minute or two to find as you couldn't hear it when revving under no load. They put it on the brake rollers and accelerated. Apparently became obvious.
Sorry if that's no help!
