Considering buying a rear projection t.v off ebay as there seems to be plenty to choose from for a few hundred quid. i've only got a standard
32'' tv now so want something bigger, if you parden the pun, and have plenty of room so no real need for an expensive flat screen. i'm
thinking in the region of 42''
Any advice on pitfalls, resons not to buy one etc please as i'm not an expert in this field, in other words i don't really no jack s@/t
about tele's.
Hope some of you can help
Thanks Paul
What ever you do, look at what ever you want to buy! There is a fantastic variation in picture quality on all TV's.
I have a Toshiba 46" RPTV and have had it for some years now. Best picture I could find, and I looked at a lot before I bought.
Have considered selling it to move up to a 50" plasma, but as you say, RPTV's can be had for a few hundred now and I paid 2K for mine!
Therefore Ill live with it for a while longer!!
If you wanna know anything else, drop me a u2u.
Cheers,
Ian
I've got a 42" Sony and it's my second one as the first one burned out the 'guns' after less than a year. When they were
replaced under warranty they couldn't realign them as the chassis was apparently flexing too much .... so they gave me a brand new replacement
model!
Only real disadvantage with RPTV is the angle of view - you must have the screen square on to your viewing position to get the best picture, which can
be a problem in a large room.
I will be upgrading to a Plasma soon so if you are interested .......
I have considered a rptv but you may need to look at the level of contrast, as mentioned the angle of view can be an issue and also the light level in
the room . My lounge has large windows and is south facing so very bright., not sure if there is sufficient contrast for a good view.
Having said that, they are good value just now and if size and space is not an issue then could be a bargain.
Toshiba have always had good reviews for RPTVs so a good place to start.
hi i am an x granada man
i have a sony 46" rps not great i paid £2500 it was £4000 at the time 8 years ago sunlight on the screen is the only problem and if you stand up
the pic goes dark but you do feal like you are the pics cuddling up on the couch at night

The best RPTV I've seen is a Sagem, was £1800 , have seen them as low as about £750 in Comet , really bright ,sharp picture and small case , it's all done by mirrors I think!!!
