can anyone give me some advise i want to put some video footage onto my p.c and then burn to dvd.
but i havnt much knowlege or where can i read how to do it ??
its a cannon 730i i have one jack looking plug in the side of the camera and the other connector looks the same as my digital camera (a small squarish
connector i did get a lead for this connecter and the other end is the usb type.
freind of mine said i will need a firewire lead im guessing i would need to buy the pc card as well i have no firewire.
and some sort of software .my camcorder takes those small cassette tapes.
thanks everyone.
Normally the USB lead is only any use for transfering still images from your camcorder to the PC. You friend is right, to transfer video, you really need firewire
You'll need to buy and install a Firewire card. I believe USB is too slow.
If you are running XP, you probably have Windows Movie maker which will let you download from camera to PC and do basic editing (cutting out the bits
where you forgot to stop the camera etc)
For burning a DVD, you will need something like Roxio DVD Creator.
Best of luck
Read your instructions for the camera - you need an AV Out - connect that into a Video capture enabled PC - capture the film onto your PC. Edit it
using Windowz Movie Makre and burn the resulting mpg to DV using any DVD creation software (NERO) or (Vegas) or (Adobe Premier).
Sorry its a bit vague but I've been doing it for years now and I'm still in the steep learning curve.
Maybe a course at your local college would help?

Does the Canon not have firewire then?
The problem with Composite video is the quality - it's analogue. Better, by far, would be firewire.
USB2 is actually faster than firewire, but not many camcorders support it.
There's now firewire 800, but I don't know of a camera that uses it!
I have the same camera, to transfer video I bought a TV card, (£30) to install into the PC. The card has three different input options, s-video , din
and tv. I used the cable that came with the camera (single 2.5mm jackplug one - red and yellow audio plugs the other). The capture software that comes
with the TV card allows you to record images coming via the card into mpg format.
Its not ideal as you have to play your entire video from start to finish to get it to record. But without a firewire/usb I couldnt come up with
another way.
Plus I can now watch TV on the PC....
Your camera might have a firewire or a usb plug - easy to tell apart buy there shape
