Slightly miffed.
MartinDB - 25/1/07 at 11:05 PM

I only had 5 arrows to start with .

At least they're not carbon

Martin.

Bloody Hell!

Who do you think you are? Robin Hood!

DIY Si - 25/1/07 at 11:34 PM

That's just blatant showing off that is!

NDC790 - 25/1/07 at 11:47 PM

Bet you cant do it again!

MikeR - 26/1/07 at 12:09 AM

ayoungman - 26/1/07 at 12:15 AM

balidey - 26/1/07 at 08:05 AM

A fellow toxophile.
And why are you miffed? I have been shooting for about 10yrs and never done a 'Robin Hood', its a good trophy to get mounted on the mantlepeice

peterparsons - 26/1/07 at 08:07 AM

Hi fello Archer.
5 ! you only need 3 on a portsmouth face...you should do it with X10's it hurts then.

macnab - 26/1/07 at 09:27 AM

I'm sh%t hot at archery for some odd reason

James - 26/1/07 at 01:12 PM

It's fake..... right?

ChrisJLW - 26/1/07 at 01:27 PM

What's the poundage of your bow & what was the range?

worX - 26/1/07 at 01:27 PM

Nope,
I was at a local comp and a young (14-15 yr old) did a double (or triple) Robin Hood where one arrow is in the target and then one in the end of that, and then ANOTHER in the end of that!!!

MartinDB - 26/1/07 at 01:43 PM

Nope, not a fake.

Not bad for someone who's only been shooting again for a couple of months after an 8 year break.
That's my excuse for why they're in the red not the gold, and I'm sticking with it .

Off to Bowplus near Whitchurch next week for a dozen Easton XX75 Platinums .

Martin.

36lb at 28", so not sure what that is on the fingers at 30" draw, over 20 yards.

Martin.

David Jenkins - 26/1/07 at 01:53 PM

I've smashed off a few nocks in the past, but not necessarily on my own arrows!

Losing them in the long grass at the longest ranges was my biggest problem...

ChrisJLW - 26/1/07 at 02:17 PM

Cool, nice shootin Tex!

iank - 26/1/07 at 02:57 PM

Is it like a hole in 1 where you have to take everyone to the bar and buy a round?

why? I thought the modern arrows were tubular ali so if the point gets inside the tube, it will do just that?

Probably not as rare as you'd think but what do I know about archery?

James - 26/1/07 at 03:46 PM

Know nothing about it myself... just thought it must be fake! Ever the cynic!

What I've never understood is why the feathers (can't remember correct term) don't knacker the flight of the arrow as they hit the bow on their way past!

Cheers,
James

David Jenkins - 26/1/07 at 04:06 PM

It's called "the archer's paradox" - the force of the released string makes the arrow bend. First the centre bends away from the bow then, as the tail approaches the bow, it springs the other way and the fletchings miss the bow.

It's all part of setting up the kit - getting the correct spring in the arrows to match the strength and speed of the bow. I have seen where the completely wrong arrows were used, and they went off at an angle, which is quite scary!

As David says arrows bend a lot at launch.

There is a video on here that kind of shows what is going and an explanation.

and lots more about archery on the whole site.

Mythbusters did two separate experiements trying to acheive a "Robin Hood" and decided it was pretty much impossible. However, they were using solid wood arrows, those seem to be tubular.

David Jenkins - 26/1/07 at 10:29 PM

Yep - high-grade ali alloy. It's not easy to achieve, as the tube is spun closed at the back end, with a plastic nock on it (the bit that holds the string).

However, I have seen it done myself, and frequently seen the back end of arrows wrecked by following shots (but never quite so well done).

i only fired a few arrows when i did archers, but they were all within inches of eachother (in the next field ). You just work on consistancy, then aim.
