strimmer

got my petrol strimmer out to wind up the tossers next door,it cuts grass pretty easily but is defeated by anything heavier.
i was thinking of making a steel blade like my mower and using that, its got a clutch of some sort so the spinner stops at idle, would this make a hard core strimmer or would something break as soon as i hit the odd buried car parts?

my neighbour did that. the hospital sewed his toes back on

would make it less usefull IMHO, the joy of the wire blade is you can skim walls and tree trunks without smashing stuff. Use thicker wire and more power!

you can buy metal blades for most strimmers, I wouldn't go the DIY route though...

Got a cutter blade on mine - bloody marvelous thing, goes through anything up 1 inch diameter. Can take out saplings at the base no problems.

I wouldn't recommend DIY. You need the thing fully tempered. I have heard stories of them shattering - including one where the bloke using it had to go to hospital to have shrapnel removed from his chest

Just like any other useful plaything - you have to treat it with respect
