Am seriously thinking of buying a used 2.5 Automatic 2004 Subaru Outback for use on Gravel roads and reasonable farm tracks and long distance cruising- anybody got anything for or against them?
They can have a weakness with cylinder head gaskets.
We had one for a while.
A short while.
Hi
I've had a 2000 Auto Outback 2.5 now for 4 years.
Tyres wear a bit on the quick side, not the best on fuel, I still like it though.
A bit slower than a Se7en.
No problems so far.
I use mine on Surrey roads, much the same as farm roads in my opinion !.
I have the 6 cyliner 3.0 (2002 model). It's a bit thirsty round town, but averaged 29mpg on a 250 mile motorway trip, at 80mph on cruise
control.
I love it, its well built, solid quality, capable and relaxing to drive, automatic gbox suits it.
It would be great as a touring car, effortless cruising all day long.

I have the three litre b spec 06 model, lovely car but o so thirsty. I have had a gas conversion done on it so it makes useable at 40pence a litre.

Thanks for the feedback all - had a look at the Outback forum - seems like the head gasket problem was more or less sorted by 2002 so maybe ok - will
be carefull to check it out properly.
Was amazed at the types of roads the cars seem to be able to handle.
Of course will miss the power of my current tin top.
