Handbrake gaiters - how much!
David Jenkins - 4/7/07 at 02:37 PM

I was Googling for handbrake gaiters today... saw reasonable ones from CBS for £12-odd, all the boy-racers' sites were asking £25 - £30 for items in lurid colours... then I saw a Lotus site.

Yours for £84 sir!

...maybe not.

just bought one from CBS, but the one with the handle.

but it wasn't £85

the Ripspeed one i bought from halfords was a SVA failure because of the "sharp edges" bit p###ed off with that but easily fixed.

I bought a handbrake gaitor from stoneleigh for a fiver. Nice real leather.

My mate works for vw and told me the gear gaitor and knob for a new golf gti is about 120 quid.

I've stitched my own in the past...very easy, actually. If you can find an old, tattered leather jacket in the right colour, you've got enough to make several!

That's what I was planning to do - I was just nosing around to see if there was something suitable at a price that made making my own uneconomic.

No such luck...

Try looking at ebay, that's where I bought mine 2,2 square mtr 1.1 mm thickness.
For 30 euro.

I'm using it for the tunnel, dash and my handbrake gaitor(already stitched by my mom)

You will probably find jacket leather too thick. The sort of stuff you want is much thinner.

I tend to do my leather stitching by hand but then some of the stuff I use I have to make the holes with a dremmel

Ive just had a new tunnel cover made with new gaitors etc, the gaitors themselves were only about a fiver each. Ill try and post some pics in interiors section today.
