Well its a long shot, but i have a Hyundai Trajet MPV it's a 2.0 petrol auto.

we hav'nt been using it much and when i used it on saturday it was ticking. i know the petrol tank was nearly empty but moving it out the drive last night it appeared to run out of petrol.

i assume the ticking was the petrol pump.

i have just put in 3 gallons of fuel and cranked it over for a couple of mins. no joy wont start.

the owners manual is crap. do i have to prime the fuel pump in some way?

so far in the last 2 weeks my passat has blown its turbo (ok i did that), i had to be towed home from my sva yesterday and now this my luck has run out

any ideas lads.

but being 3.3 petrol auto that only does 20mpg

at least the wine is cheap in france and theres lots of space to bring it back

as far as i can see there are three problems with your car,

1) Hyundai
2) MPV
3) Auto


But on a serious note, how about removing a fuel hose in the engine bay, carfully pointing it into a bucket and turn the ignition on, if you get petrol through i would start to worry, but then try plugs, failing that get the fault codes read. May have some damage to the cat

have a go at that and see what happens

just a thought, where did the clicking sound like it was coming from?

if u dont have home start, tow it 3 miles away and call them, tell them u ran out of juice,. put some in and here u r. simple....

diesel have those problems of presure etc etc, but not heard of a petrol doing that...

maybe the pump has packed up, or possibly clogged, as if there was crap in the tank and often is, could have been pulled into pipe/filter when it ran out...

just a thought.....

Perhaps the pump is full of shite, from the bottom of the tank?? (Had that problem in work today, someone ran outta petrol and it wouldnt start once refueld.. ended up being pipe to pump was clogged)

Can u hear the pump pumping the pressure up when u first turn the ignition on??

Take the fuel pipe off the injector rail and see if u have fuel there. Can you get to a pressure relief valve on the fuel rail u can press in to see if theres fuel or pressure?

Maybe an air lock in the fuel pipe.

Try it again tomorra and see what happens it might have flooded itself and cant get over it.

Not much to go on really.

You say it was almost out of fuel, but how almost? Had the light been on?

Go back to basics, pull a plug and check for spark, remove an injector and check for fuel. Get your multimeter out and check the fuel pump is getting voltage, and see what current its using.

17 is bad. but i'm use to 55mpg from my passat TDI. i commute 100 miles a day and

Passat £40 = one weeks motoring
Voyager £40 = 2 Days motoring

back to the problem, the ticking was from under the car low down to the side of the engine. the engine was running sweet but the ticking was rev dependant.

the warning light had not come but i know it worked a week before.

i will try removing a fuel pipe and seeing if there is any fuel getting through.

the problem is i'm selling it and i dont want to spend a fortune on fixing it.
