Hi,
I'm having a problem with my Mondeo. It's a 2 litre and under certain circumstances it misfires.
It ticks over fine
If I increase the revs gradually from tickover it's fine.
If I blip the throttle from tickover it misfires quite badly.
When driving this means I have to get the revs quite high to pull away and then accelerate very slowly, but when I reach whatever speed I want to be driving at it's fine.
The plugs are fine, the coil pack measures 0.6 ohms across both terminals (book says 0.5 +/- 0.05, don't know if that is significant), and it does it with or without the airbox/airfilter installed. It's not got any water /oil problems so I've ruled out head gasket.

Any ideas chaps, it's driving me nuts.

have you checked/changed the ht leads how old are the plugs could be one breaking down and generally check round for air leaks

2nd for HT leads. Have a look along the length of each one. Sometimes you can see where they are tracking to something metallic..

Check plugleads with meter should ge about 10K ohms a foot if I remember right.

Yes could be the plugs flashing over --- new leads and plugs.

Standard plug gap is 1.3 mm ! such a wide gap puts the HT components under a lot of stress.
If the plugs leads start to flash over at the plug lead boot they carbonise the boot and make the surface of the porecelain conductive.

I have started use narrower plug gaps -- try 1mm 0r even 0.8mm

What year mondeo are we talking about here. my inlaws have a 51 plate that has an intermitant misfire, not surprising the stealers can't find the fault. loads of bits changed but still happening. any suggestions?

Check the vacuum hose under the coil pack, there's a "T" piece that splits.
A couple of quid from Ford.

Oh, and British Trident, you're not the only one to use 1mm plug gaps now, Ford changed their recommendation once they realised how quickly the plug leads were breaking down Only replace Mondeo plug leads with top quality ones, preferably from Ford (not cheap though). Cheapo ones are a false economy.

As well as the plugs and leads try a bottle of injector cleaner, have found it helps .

Thanks fellas, changed plugs, although they looked alright, and plug leads and now it runs like a dream.
