Well yeah anyway, had to do a headgasket on a VW polo '92 reg 1300. Took head off etc, cleaned it all up, and then me and my mate told the
teacher, he said hell cum help us lift it back in, and the inlet valve on cylinder 2 was open, and the pistons in numbers 2 + 3 where open, And he
didnt realise. We carried on, he told us what to do, so we did it.. He told us to tighten head bolts up, and that it would be tight (Told us this when
he was doing one) Then it made all bad noises etc.. and he said its just the rust (Inside a oil rich engine?
like i said, we did it all, then went
to start it, and it missed like a pig. So we did cylinder leakage test, which was showin it was leaking, and guess what? He bent the valve, and tried
blaming on me and my mate !
If that dont make sense, its cos its too long : My apologies lol
Just goes to show never trust a teacher
If you knew it was wrong, shouldn't you have said something?

lesson learnt then ?
Lesson learned I guess.
Yeah, make sure all pistons are in middle of the block : And to listen to other teachers instead maybe, cos one of the MA's said he was a nob like that..
Surely not just make sure the pistons are in the middle of the block but make sure the cams are in phase with the pistons...
If you cant do it, teach it!!!
Yep - those who can, do. Those who can't, teach!
Should you not turn the engine over by hand first to avoid any damage?
Mike
Those that CAN...DO
Those than CANT... TEACH
:

That's just what I said... a few posts ago!
Actually you usually find those that 'can't' also make shockingly bad teachers as well.
My wife is a teacher, a good one, and she's much brighter than most people I know and works a damn sight harder for more hours than most
on here.
when you stripped the head off and cleaned it you or your mate must have turned the cam or the cranck as it wouldnt have come off in that position or it would already have been damaged i dont think is fair to blame the teacher if you had set the job upright to start with the valve wouldnt have been bent on tightening the head down
