I can confirm that your vehicle does not need an Mot until 3 years after the date of first registration. Unfortunately the vehicle system currently outputs a message requesting an Mot on the V11 Vehicle License Reminder. Due to system constraints and we are unable to amend this at present.

In order for you to license your vehicle you will need to apply by completing application form V10 and submitting it with your Registration Certificate V5C, insurance certificate and fee for tax to your nearest DVLA Local Office.

I am sure that many of us thank you for that information as it has cleared up all the uncertainty of whether or not an MOT is needed on a newly Q plated car. So really good news.

is it possible to send all the forms in recorded delivery and get the DVLA local office to send out a tax disc (and all the forms)?... I really can't be bothered waiting for 3 hours at the local office....

I think the point is it sounds like for Q-plate it won't work online as their system requests an MOT, thus the only way is to go to DVLA in person. This is not the case for age-related and new cars as they probably record the date of first registration in a different way which means their system knows not to request an MOT certificate.

Yup. Online it says I have to have an MOT cos it's a Q so they don't know the date of registration... Load of cobblers really.

I think I'll send it all recorded to my local office and let them sort it out....

Road tax is £115 for a BEC now isn't it (I paid £110 last year but I think it's gone up!!)...

I just filled out a V112 form and took it down to my local post office. The assistant looked at it and promptly issued my tax disc. She said just bring the form with you when you tax the car up until the 3 year point when I will need the MOT cert. It is a bit easier than driving the 50 mile round trip to the local!! DVLA office.

Yep, that's the best way, done this twice now and they have never queried it, they don't even bother to keep the V112 form!!

Until i had to have an MOT this year i just took my V5 to the PO and showed them the 1st date of registration, they can ammend/input into the system to sort it.

I've had no problems doing it this way, but to be honest an mot test is a very cheap way to get a once over on your car.
