Early ones used Triumph based front suspension, later one were Opel or later Toyota. parts.

Gearboxes were Ford 2000e 4 speed (rare) or Lotus Maxi based 5 speed, later I am told the Toyota box was used.

well its a 2.2 , and ive been told should be a getrag box , i have faint memories of an elite with a chocolate reverse maxi box .

Sounds like an S2 -- base model had steel wheels and the Ford 4 speed, most other models had the Lotus box but towards the end they used Getrag but as they weren't exactly flying off the shelves at the point Getrag ones are pretty rare..
Electric system was almost the same as the Elan+2S eg awful.

The Eclat-Excel and Excel were a big improvement.

I used to have a 2.2 eclat. It did have a getrag box, triumph vitesse front uprights and brakes and what looked like jag xj6 diff, driveshafts and rear uprights. sorry don't know what pcd the wheels were but don't think that it was as small as a triumph, more likely to be ford but I could be wrong

what year is it, 2.2 eclats are very rare are you sure its not an excel? in which case everything mechanical with the exception of the engine is from a toyota supra

Well the 2.2 engine was based on the vauxhall 2.0 slant block, crank etc. They fitted Getrag gearboxes to the Droopsnoot firenza. They were also in the CF van when it was made into an ambulance along with a flowed Bleidenstein head to get it moving a bit.

Actually no -- very different engine Lotus engine all alloy, Vauxhall-Bedford unit was cast iron.

Lotus only used 2 litre Vauxhall cylinder blocks as mules durring development of the 907 cylinder head.
However because of a lot of the leading dimensions remain the same and a Lotus head can be fitted to Vauxhall engine or a Vauxhall 2.3 crank and rods can be fitted to a Lotus engine.

The Vauxhall 2.3 16 Valve head used on the Chevette 2300 HSR was compeletely different from the Lotus head it used a different valve included angle.

Sorry I did only say it was based on the vauxhall block etc. and was sort of wondering that a vauxhall and getrag gearbox are interchangeable. Lotus initially developed the engine for Jensen which then went bust, presumably having paid for most of the costs.
