Anyone know how to download the UK maps to a Nokia N95?

Don't do it with the Nokia lead - you need to transfer them with a card reader, should be fine then.

If you go to the Nokia web site, you can download the Map Loader application. This shows the various maps you can download and will upload them to your phone using the USB cable.
