woman who cannot drive petrol car

apparently was on the radio recently that some woman in UK has too much static electricity in her body that when see uses a petrol pump it causes the petrol to explode.


anyone heard this? linky?

Yes tell her to dump the nylon clothes, This is probably an urban myth started by Mythbusters or Braniac as they have both recently done demos of igniting petrol with person wearing nylon clothes!

but they showed on Mythbusters that it usually requires a person to fill up the tank without holding on to the earthed pump handle (ie it requires the US style of auto-fill pumps) and it usually requires people to get back into the car whilst it's filling and get out WITHOUT touching the door or any other part of the car and then touch the pump handle.

IE unlikely

She also adjusted her (presumeably acrylic) jumper just before she touched the pump.

There was a news article last week that described a young lad who was banned from using school computers because he made them go crazy each time he went near one. I think they even fitted him with an earthing strap to try and solve the problem!
