footwear for 7 driving
eccsmk - 8/5/08 at 07:53 PM

i wasn't sure where to put this so i dropped it here
i just wondered what the best footwear is for driving my little indy as im a big foot (size 11)
and i cant brake and clutch at the same time with any of my trainers on
strange question i know
thank you for looking

mackei23b - 8/5/08 at 07:57 PM

Looks like some race boots or similar as they are narrower than a trainer.

blakep82 - 8/5/08 at 07:57 PM

a pair fo racing boots are narrower than trainers... you might look a bit pretentious at petrol stations, and whenever you get out the car though...

eznfrank - 8/5/08 at 07:58 PM

If you don't fancy going for proper sticky driving shoes you could try some of the Adidas Goodyear trainers, they tend to be a bit slimmer and have a bit of a motorsport feel to them

PeterColeman - 8/5/08 at 07:59 PM

Same car here, same foot size!

My Nike trainers are quite narrow and I can control the pedals fine. If I had my comfy Converses on, no chance.

Failing that, I've done well with race / kart boots (kart boots are cheaper), but in the end it's a question of who'll see your feet at the end of the journey - my red racing boots have often provoked a little scorn...

cheers folks ill google round see what i can find

im not too worried about people seeing my in race boots as ill be wearing a tutu lol

same car, same size feet.

and funnily enough got a pair of the addidas goodyears and they are great even though they are a 12 but very slim and sticky.

but they are yellow, canary yellow, but ..

$18 on a recent trip to florida. truly locost

I went for a set of proper black Momo race boots myself. If you look around you might find some that arent quite so obvious so you dont look like too much of a burk at the petrol station. The yellow momo logo was under my jeans so they werent too bad although i drew the line at wearing them into the pub - took spare shoes for that

philw - 8/5/08 at 08:10 PM

I always buy Puma daps as they seem to have thin soles and keep your feet narrow( if this make sense) so you get good feel from the pedals.

welderman - 8/5/08 at 08:21 PM

yep small trainers for me, mine are tatty old puma ones noe, i remember the time i took it out for a test drive with my rigger boots on, after the sole lip got stuck behind the brake pedal, i never did that again, redline bouncing off limiter, s#at myself.

philw - 8/5/08 at 08:24 PM

Yeah, i have done exactly the same thing

Triton - 8/5/08 at 08:40 PM

Puma cat trainers are jolly damn fine to drive in with soles like their race boots...even 300 miles in a T4....

I'm a tight git and prefer to spend my spare cash on the car so its Lonsdale trainers for me replicas of the Addidas Goodyears

I've also got some sparco race boots which are great for driving but bloody murder if you stand on a stone so don't tend to use them very often.

Dave........

Kriss - 8/5/08 at 10:12 PM

Puma Speedcats

Race style soles and look fine with jeans etc too.

I got a pair brand new on ebay for £36

niceperson709 - 9/5/08 at 12:51 AM

Dunlop volleys, light , cheap and comfortable what more could you want?

thepest - 9/5/08 at 05:37 AM

Squash shoes ususally do it for me, the base is solid but do not extend outwards like addidas. Ask to look at a pair next time you're in the sports shop

speedyxjs - 9/5/08 at 07:06 AM

I have size 12 feet
Cant you just drive with no shoes on?

I bought a pair of "fashion" trainers from Next a couple of weeks, ago. look fine with normal clothes, and are very narrow and thin sole..(very race shoe in design)

meany - 9/5/08 at 08:42 AM

has anyone ever tried "Vans", or would you reckon the soles are too thick.

gingerprince - 9/5/08 at 08:59 AM

I use cheapo Lonsdale's too: -

Cost about 15 quid from one of those big sports outlets. Work fine for my size 11 plates in my MK Indy. Nice thin sole too so you can feel the pedals.

See them in action in this video, from about 1m 34secs in: -
